Summer babies club (due June, July, Aug 2013)

Recommended Posts

Hey - just wondered whether anyone fancied going to the baby and cinema club at the Ritzy on Friday? It's at 11am and they are showing the new Richard Curtis romcom "About Time" - the mum and baby club is aptly called "the Big Scream" and it basically means people can take their babas to the cinema. Check it out here: http://www.picturehouses.co.uk/cinema/Ritzy_Picturehouse/Whats_On/Clubs_Groups/Big_Scream/

Give me a shout if anyone's keen,

Lou, I'll see you there as I'm already going with my NCT crew

One thing to note, website says its the new Richard Curtis film, in cinema and printed details it says its showing "The Way Way Back"!

The guy I spoke to in the cinema last week didn't know which was correct!!!

You have to pay ?1 "annual membership" (apparently that gets them around fact the babies are all too young to officially "see" the higher rated films!!)

You also have to leave buggies outside the room which I can't picture as its such a small place!!

Trying it for the first time so interested to check out what Amber thinks ;))

Hey - so yeah I have tickets to see About Time - am going with a friend who had a baby last week (she may therefore pull out!) but see you there Ginny (any anyone else who fancies it!).

Power-pramming was really fun actually. I've only done it once but am up for doing it on Monday after the meet up if anyone else is keen. Also - just to report back - I went to mum and baby zumba today at Push Studios - was a real work out (I did not look pretty!) and i'm trying the post natal pilates class tomorrow. Just thought i'd say in case anyone had the urge to come join!

Hi there, I think I may be a little late to the party (!) but I was told about this forum by a lovely mum at baby sensory class in Forest Hill.

I had my son Walter on June 27th and can't believe how quickly time has flown. Anyway, I'd love to join the group if I'm still allowed! My NCT group were talking about baby cinema on Thursdays at Peckham Multiplex, so maybe see some of you there, and I am also keen on powerpramming (though a little scared!).

Happy sunny Thursdays everyone x

Hi Everyone,

I am a late joiner to the forum. I have a 3 month old little girl and i am looking to meet some mums in the area. I live in Nunhead and me and baby have not been to any groups yet (been to tired to get out).

I am i first time mum and single parent and would love to make some mummy friends! If anyone is local and free to meet it would be great to hear from you.

Hope your all well.

X

Toby and I will try to come along but we're stuck at home waiting for a delivery at the moment, so will depend if they come in time. Unfortunately the delivery slot is rather unhelpful (8 - 18.30!) so who knows when we'll be allowed out! Hopefully see you in a bit.

    • Southwark and Lambeth may have some spaces but this is not the case of other London boroughs nearby particularly at secondary level. Also this is not just a London issue. There are many regions throughout the UK that have no school places available (eg Kent due to new housing developments, rural areas, Surrey, Guildford, Edinburgh etc). Just because you feel it doesn’t affect you, does not mean it’s right.  You also need to consider the proportion of foreign students in many of the private schools in the area which distorts the impression that local people can pay private school fees and suck up an additional £4-5k per child and per year. And sadly, the psychological and emotional impact on children is not even being discussed.
    • Step in a child’s shoes just for one moment and think what it would be like to have to move schools in the middle of the year away from your friends, teachers, community etc. due to a political stunt. I doubt the money will even go into education. The UK will be become the only European country to tax education. Primary schools have some capacity where I live but I have enquired and there are currently no places for secondary school where I live. Again, so easy to be smug and say we should have pre planned a potential outcome 5 years ago when you live in your £2-3m homes next to the best state schools in Dulwich (like Keir Starmer!)
    • Please let me know if anyone is selling a Hemnes daybed in the near future. Thanks
    • Birth rate collapses sounds a bit like Armageddon.  It's a mixture of a decline following a bulge, where many schools had to increase intake, and families moving out of the capital due to high cost of housing.  Now that is an irony, that only wealthy families, many who can afford private schooling, can afford to live in many parts of London.
