Muttley
The clocks go forward tonight, which means one less hour of night time, so the lights don't have to be on for so long, so we're all doing our bit for the environment today. We should just put the clocks forward by one hour each week and the earth will be saved.Not. Peckhamgatecrasher
Oh be sensible Steve. Next you'll be wanting us to use milimetres and such modern tosh. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2935-earth-hour/#findComment-90740 Share on other sites
Moos
I'm with Steve - no more dark-at-4pm in winter - how much nicer that would be!But PGC, loving the subtle disdain suggesting Steve would need to measure millimetres... SteveT
Heaven forfend dear ladies, I am strictly a feet and inches man myself, I cannot differentiate millimetres with my eyesight at this stage of the game. Asset
If the clocks remain at summer time it won't get light until after 9am in southern Scotland and as for the north....I suppose Scotland could have its own time zone Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2935-earth-hour/#findComment-90816 Share on other sites
Asset
In re. Earth Hour. I did actually switch all the lights off for that hour and use candlelight instead. It was nice. Asset
not that easy when trying to get dinner on the go and keep the kids happy. As it is most of our lights are energy saving bulbs and unnecessary lights are usually off. we're pretty good on energy saving in this household - stingy you see.As the peeps who have organised the earth hour say it's more of a symbolic gesture. By all accounts other cities have really gone to town with it (scuse the pun) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2935-earth-hour/#findComment-90847 Share on other sites
SteveT
Forgetting Scotland for the moment, would it be more energy efficient for England and Wales to be permanently on euro time? Michael Palaeologus
Presumably at 9am there was a large energy surge when everybody put their lights and kettles back on, causing the back up oil powered electricity generators to kick in and so dumping thousand of tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. Nero
Got my bill from nPower for gas the other day. Given that we were away for a good few weeks of the billing period when we turn the heating right down, and that the boiler was kaput for another three weeks, it was an expensive bill. So, I got my roof lagged for ?274 quid and am expecting a ?100 cashback voucher soon, and I filled the cracks in my floorboards with Gapseal (fantastic stuff) and am switching off the heating and water earlier. My motivation is getting more money in my wallet as I hate the idea of giving it away for no good reason to a huge organisation. SteveT
Being a post war baby I was quite used to a spartan life, as we only heated and lit one room, we all read our books, ate, argued, and played in because it meant one fire and one bulb burning.I thought it might help to keep more money in more wallets Nero.
