Pam50
Hi, I can always rely on the EDF to give brilliant ideas...I'm going to a family wedding at Easter in Oz and want some gifts for family and friends, obviously UK made, light and smallish for packing. Love to have any suggestions! Many thanks. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29418-gifts-to-take-to-oz/ Share on other sites
hazelnunhead
The cafe on pellet road, cafe on rye (I think)has t shirts and other printed stuff very peckham based. Some lovely stuff there. There's a great childrens book on London if that is appropriate. I have also found the maritime museum, shop, has really great gifts for both children and adults. Skeltz
I got an amazing 'not sure if it was limited edition' Peter Pan book and the cover was printed with the usual landmarks ... Telephone boxes etc.... From the bookshop at Herne Hill. Moon on the hill I think it's called. Light to carry and a keep sake. fapl
I always find the gift shops at places like Tate Modern or Transport Museum have tasteful things that could only be from London. melbourne groover
A website called To Dry for has fab London tea towels that always go down well. Cooler prints than the bog standard... hazelnunhead
There is also that little shop (Bellenden Road) towards the scout hall, (not on the strip where kuki hair etc is but the other way if that makes sense) that sells interesting gifts, cushion covers, tea towels, jewellery etc. I have found some interesting bits here for presents to send abroad. However they have quite odd opening hours! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29418-gifts-to-take-to-oz/#findComment-619726 Share on other sites

fapl
That is not quite true about not taking any food. If it is commercially prepared and sealed it should be fine, chocolates, biscuits (not sure if there is anything about being in a tin that might be a problem going through a scanning machine or having an issue with the seal?), sweets are all ok. Homemade would be a problem though, and YOU MUST DECLARE. You will cause a problem for yourself if you don't as they scan most bags on the way into the country. They check wood items, I would think most children's toys sold in the UK would be fine, especially if they are brand new with all labels on them, once again you have to declare (a homemade wooden carved toy might be a problem as they would not know the provenance). reeko
Just watch a few episodes of Nothing to Declare and you should be fine. Border agents shout "THIS IS FOOOUUUUD" at small south east asian ladies whilst pointing at shrivlled indetermintate masses crawling in unidentified creepy crawlies. Repetitive but compulsive viewing and good prep for getting through the border Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29418-gifts-to-take-to-oz/#findComment-620250 Share on other sites
