Whys does everyone seem to be trying to derial this thread about our crap wasteful slimy MP into some kind of sexist sneering agenda ?

I dont care if shes a woman. I dont care about the size of her arse - and to be honest, when i said fat arse, it sounded better than bony arse when you are having a rant. I could have said spotty arse - I really dont know whether her arse is big or small, spotty or unblemished - and I dont care.

I bet she wears glasses for reading, so Im going to revise my tirade to the following :

"I would so like to kick her up her ambitious fat arse AND knock her stupid pinz-nez off her sweaty moon like face"

does that make me anti Spectacle wearers ?

or does it make me anti sweaty moon faces ? I bet Pete Docherty is shitting himself now

bah

Back to the subject.....

I'm really annoyed with her - an MP for how long and she doesn't know what kind of message she's sending out if she appears wearing a stab-proof vest in her own constituency? Peckham has had such bad press and whilst it can and has been a rough area (along with many other places in London) on the whole it's a good place to be and I feel it's slowly getting better. However, with stunts like that it will never shake of it's 'rough' tag.

nah - it's Tessa who lives in North London

Harriet does live somewhere round here

I genuinely don't like her, but think this is all stuff and nothing - Mike Paeleologous has hit the head with the questionable donations.

Next time the Pope drives around behind 3 foot of plexiglass in some city, have a word about faith and naivet? then - but this just seems a hasty little mistake

I dunno for sure but most Labour MPS don't

- Live anywhere near their 'working class' constituents

- send their kids to any even vaguely dodgy schools inner city schools

I ain't a big fan of the tories but at least they don't try and impose 'equality' on everyone else except themselves and their families.....'socialists' in huge hypocracy shocker...vermin, to turn Bevin's description of the Tories back on New Labour

When I worked at King's A&E there was discussion about whether or not the triage nurses needed stab vests, after a number of fights and incidents in the waiting room in which the triage nurse was either the target or got caught in the cross-fire (metaphorical, no waiting room shootings...). Was abandoned as unnecessary, but highlights that public work in the Camberwell/Peckham area can be dangerous: the officers that HH was with were wearing stab vests, so she did. I don't blame her, and I'd have done the same. I think the hairnet/hardhat arguements are very reasonable: the answer to John Humphrey's question about needing a stab vest should be "Normal people don't, but the Police force do, and I was on a walk-around with the Police, you muppet!"

Just as a matter of interest, I wondered if any of this person's constituents has ever got her to express an opinion on anything?

I have written to her via email about three issues recently. The first two emails through the website, theyworkforyou.com, which keeps and publishes records of which MPs can't be bothered to reply to their own voters, and the third went through the website of a campaign group.

She replied to the first email saying that she would pass on my comments to her colleagues, but there was no sign of her own opinion (which is what I had asked for). She replied to the second with an email just acknowledging receipt, nothing else. She hasn't bothered to reply to the third one at all.

If you meet her face to face - if anyone ever does meet her outside a photo opportunity, or press conference - does she just give one of those sickly patronising smiles and say nothing?

Is there any other job you could get, apart from Member of Parliament, if you just sat there in the job interview and failed to answer every question?

An ex-of mine worked with someone who knew her well...."vacuouus"...apparently, and I ain't seen much to contradict that. Incapable of having an opinion without reference to an 'opinion' manual, professional politician, way out of her depth......sounds a bit like Gordon Brown really......

Member of Parliament interview...

Have you any work experience outside of the backstabbing, political struggle that is becoming an MP? Answer no

Have you any intention of putting yourself and your family through the services that you think everyone else should use? No

Are you willing to put your expenses and other financial interests to scrutiny in the way that any other employee would have to do? NO

Have you any intention of answering any question in a straightforward way? NO

Will you accept any blame fot what goes wrong in the way that you willingly accept credit for what goes right? NO

Excellent, let's have you running the country

i think you,ll find the reason she was wearing the vest was that the police told her to wear it, unfortunately like everything in the world these days the walkabout would have been risk assessed by the police and an action plan developed and the wearing of the vest would have been as a consequence of that. its a bit unfortunate that the walkabout took part in an area of london which has a reputation for violent crime and yes it dosent send out a very positive message, but i wonder if we would be making the same fuss if the walkabout had happened in a more upmarket part of town that dosent have the reputation of camberwell/peckham, i somehow doubt it.

Basically this government has been all about image and spin, so by any measure this was, as an earlier poster said, an own goal, regardless of the facts of the case. Since when have New Labour been into facts (WMD anyone)?!

Anyone looking for another own goal (or not as was the case) should read the first story in today's Private Eye about the photo-op that wasn't, between Brown and Sarkozy at the Emirates. Classic!

I think she is great, I spoke to her a while ago at her surgery about the influx of these bumpkins from the middle classes living their media class lives and creating these liberalised enclaves, and using my taxes to do it, for people who were signing up in droves to spread the word of this new found faith. She agreed with me and said something had to be done to scare these buggers off. So she came up with this vest idea to freak out anyone thinking of trying to get a mortgage south of the Old Kent Rd while at the same time using her influence within the treasury to cut of the supply of mortgages to first time buyers. She said she had modelled it on the 'Chicken out campaign' and was going to start putting the squeeze on supplies of glass chandeliers and rubberised kitchen utensils. This would soon be followed by a new law that would ensure that any proposed Folk nights are shut down before they open and anyone caught discussing such gatherings would be marked with the sign of a whelk and taken in for questioning. I left and headed to the Thomas A beckett for 3 6 minute rounds, a pint and some fresh snout only to discover that it had been turned into a freeking art gallery !

The police probably made her fill out a Risk Assessment assessmest form.

Risk: crossing the road. Action: look both ways consequence: not being run over

Risk: fashion faux pas Action: consult Trinny and Suzannah Consequence: avoiding mockery in press

Risk: assault. Action: wear a stab vest Consequence: appease poloiceman but get lambasted in the press

    • I've never got Christmas pudding. The only times I've managed to make it vaguely acceptable to people is thus: Buy a really tiny one when it's remaindered in Tesco's. They confound carbon dating, so the yellow labelled stuff at 75% off on Boxing Day will keep you going for years. Chop it up and soak it in Stones Ginger Wine and left over Scotch. Mix it in with a decent vanilla ice cream. It's like a festive Rum 'n' Raisin. Or: Stick a couple in a demijohn of Aldi vodka and serve it to guests, accompanied by 'The Party's Over' by Johnny Mathis when people simply won't leave your flat.
    • Not miserable at all! I feel the same and also want to complain to the council but not sure who or where best to aim it at? I have flagged it with our local MP and one Southwark councillor previously but only verbally when discussing other things and didn’t get anywhere other than them agreeing it was very frustrating etc. but would love to do something on paper. I think they’ve been pretty much every night for the last couple of weeks and my cat is hating it! As am I !
    • That is also a Young's pub, like The Cherry Tree. However fantastic the menu looks, you might want to ask exactly who will cook the food on the day, and how. Also, if  there is Christmas pudding on the menu, you might want to ask how that will be cooked, and whether it will look and/or taste anything like the Christmas puddings you have had in the past.
    • This reminds me of a situation a few years ago when a mate's Dad was coming down and fancied Franklin's for Christmas Day. He'd been there once, in September, and loved it. Obviously, they're far too tuned in to do it, so having looked around, £100 per head was pretty standard for fairly average pubs around here. That is ridiculous. I'd go with Penguin's idea; one of the best Christmas Day lunches I've ever had was at the Lahore Kebab House in Whitechapel. And it was BYO. After a couple of Guinness outside Franklin's, we decided £100 for four people was the absolute maximum, but it had to be done in the style of Franklin's and sourced within walking distance of The Gowlett. All the supermarkets knock themselves out on veg as a loss leader - particularly anything festive - and the Afghani lads on Rye Lane are brilliant for more esoteric stuff and spices, so it really doesn't need to be pricey. Here's what we came up with. It was considerably less than £100 for four. Bread & Butter (Lidl & Lurpak on offer at Iceland) Mersea Oysters (Sopers) Parsnip & Potato Soup ( I think they were both less than 20 pence a kilo at Morrisons) Smoked mackerel, Jerseys, watercress & radish (Sopers) Rolled turkey breast joint (£7.95 from Iceland) Roast Duck (two for £12 at Lidl) Mash  Carrots, star anise, butter emulsion. Stir-fried Brussels, bacon, chestnuts and Worcestershire sauce.(Lidl) Clementine and limoncello granita (all from Lidl) Stollen (Lidl) Stichelton, Cornish Cruncher, Stinking Bishop. (Marks & Sparks) There was a couple of lessons to learn: Don't freeze mash. It breaks down the cellular structure and ends up more like a French pomme purée. I renamed it 'Pomme Mikael Silvestre' after my favourite French centre-half cum left back and got away with it, but if you're not amongst football fans you may not be so lucky. Tasted great, looked like shit. Don't take the clementine granita out of the freezer too early, particularly if you've overdone it on the limoncello. It melts quickly and someone will suggest snorting it. The sugar really sticks your nostrils together on Boxing Day. Speaking of 'lost' Christmases past, John Lewis have hijacked Alison Limerick's 'Where Love Lives' for their new advert. Bastards. But not a bad ad.   Beansprout, I have a massive steel pot I bought from a Nigerian place on Choumert Road many years ago. It could do with a work out. I'm quite prepared to make a huge, spicy parsnip soup for anyone who fancies it and a few carols.
