I'm overdue am upgrade of my mobile and not sure what to get. I've been more than happy with my trusty Sony Erriccson, and have looked at some similar but newer models. However, I am tempted by this LT viewlty (or something like that), has anyone had one, and what are they like?
i,m due next week and being a bit of a nokia devotee i,m presently using a 6233, have had a good look around and will likely go for the nokia e51. i dont tend to like the sonys they,re a bit too blocky and bulky for my liking, but of all the phones i,ve checked out the e51 seems to have the best spec and reviews. i,d obviously like an iphone, but i,d have to hide it from spadetowngirl. otherwise i,d have my neck rung.

Probably means you can get it on any network....

Depends what you want Keef? I use a Nokia N95, as it allows me to keep tabs with my mails, gives me good web access and also syncs with Outlook to allow me to keep all my contacts with me at all times. 5mp camera too is not bad.

I use all this gadgety stuff as i'm self employed and it's realyl useful for what I want. Downside is the battery life can be a bit poor. Less than a day with a bit of surfing, calling and mailing.

I too looked at the LG Viewty, thought it was dead sexy, but not one person could tell me if it synced with Outlook, so I went for the Nokia.

Having had a brief spell with Sony E I found it a struggle to do simepl things and found nokia much more intuative. You might come at this from the other direction.

I got a k8650i in the end.

Criticisms about the phone are definitely valid (small buttons not great for mega-texters, weird touch-sensitive buttons may annoy some) but whether this is a big issue or not comes down to how much you use it, what you use it for and how much extra you're prepared to spend to get something else.

I make some calls, send some texts and take a fair few snaps - not much else.. and after the perennial 'I'm thinking of leaving' routine, Orange gave me a k850i for free, reduced my bill to ?15/month and gave me 500 mins and 500 texts so that was good enough for me.

I binned the N95 on the grounds of poor battery life, the delay in picture-taking and buggy software. And because it did a hundred things I don't want anyway.

I?m due a new phone too and I really don?t know what to get. They all have lists of features that get me all excited now but I know in reality they are all just so much wank that I will never use.

What I would use is a camera that takes pictures to a quality that I can actually print off, an mp3 player (although this isn?t strictly necessary as I have now been branded with the mark of iBeast) and a LW and or digital radio so I can get the cricket.

Anyone know if such a thing exists?

A built in lighter and a toothpick would also be handy.

Agree with the "depends what your needs are" with regards to the handset for you.

I've just moved to the N95 8gb after about 3 years on mainly SE's and am just getting use to texting and find my way around - but it has a top notch camera, big sized screen, good quality music player, radio, wifi and all the other bits and bobs i want (but probably wont ever use)

With regards to the viewty, I'd worry about the touch screen - would you really get on with it?

Might be worth hanging fire for the SE C902 or the Samsung U900 (Soul) - both have all the top line features that people use (5mp camera, music player, browser etc) - I know that if you keep waiting for the next big thing, you'd never replace anything - but what features do you really need that arent on those phones?

I've gone for buying a new battery to keep my trusty old SE phone going. Without phone upgrades factored in, the contract is cheaper. But then I only use it for a bit of talking and a bit of texting so not much point spending money on features I don't use. "Depends on what your needs are" is definitely right.

Cheers for that Anna, I had considered it, but it just doesn't go with my heels!

RE: What I want in a phone, I use my phone loads for talking and texting, and quite a bit for web surfing (reading this bloody forum). I would quite like a decent camera, because SLR cameras are too big to carry around all the time, so I am constantly without a camera at those moments when you wish your compact was in your pocket! I would like the best "flash" available.

I loved the walkman music player on my W800i, and I know this is no reason to choose a phone, but the headphones were great!

For those who haven't seen it, here is the LG Viewty. The touch screen and battery life are the things stopping me.

If you havent been a Nokia man before, then for what reasons do you think you'll be an LG man?

Might be worth getting the main man to confirm what browsers this site supports (as I'm sure it doesnt support the PS3's browser) - not sure what browser the LG has but i guess it could be a problem? Opera mini still seems to be the main browser of choice for surfing on the phone but you'll need to download it from opera.

If you're a big fan of your walkman headphones then you should be able to comfortably use them on the N958gb as it plugs into the headset in the same way the SE handsets do.

I think bon3yard has some iMagicbeans for sale in the offered section

Having endured many 'Smart' phones over the last few years and gone back to me old basic nokia from each one, I'm upgrading to a Samsung i780

I left it a while, and in the end I went for the LG Viewty, because it looked flash :-$

Got it yesterday, and I am a bit scared of it, it's completely touch screen, but you can use your finger (although they do supply a little pen thing), and it seems to work rather well.

Basically, the best 2 phones at the moment are the latest Sony camera phone, and this Viewty, both have 5mp cameras', and decent (for a mobile) flashes. I very nearly went Sony because I am a big fan, but in the end I was put off by the keypad which is really fiddly, and makes it very frustrating.

The camera on the HUGE screen on the Viewty won me over, but I'm not 100% convinced I've done the right thing... Oh well, will have to get used to it... At least the texting is similar to Sony's so painless transition there.

I'm fine with the texting, as the on screen buttons are quite big, but surfing the net can be tricky without... I haven't tried drawing yet...

All in all, having had it for a couple of days, I am really happy with it, the camera is wicked!

Just a note for users of various phones, I went to Amazon, and have ordered a 2GB Micro SD memory thingy, and it cost ?1.25!!!! I thought it too good to be true, but there were loads of user reviews saying they'd used it with this phone or that phone and it's a true bargain... It did cost ?6 something with the first class post, but still a bargain in my opinion.

Has anyone ever used Dialaphone?

They're the ones with the ads in most tabloid papers offering phones on contract with free Wii's or in the offer I'm interested in, a free Playstation3.

It seems too good to be true but would be interested to see if anyone has had success with them. I could do with a new package.

Does it work as an upgrade or do you have to be a new customer? Could I cancel one contract and start a new one?

I was offered a free upgrade to the Nokia N95 8 gig last week - wasn't sure as it's a bit top-heavy but having used it for a week it's been a joy so far. Especially compared to the constant heartache that was the N... pause for a bit... 7.... pause for another bit......3

    • Hello! i'm looking for someone who could do this for me in the next couple of days please. Please let me know what you would charge. Many thanks!
    • All the more reason to support the BBC.  The last thing we want is a news service controlled by the likes.
    • I am genuinely curious… what is this obsession with keeping children active with things to do after school. From what I know, most  CV kids to rugby or football of a weekend but do they actually need activities during the week after school? What about going home, relaxing before homework and I don’t know, reading a book, drawing, Lego, constructing a car/plane.. even making some cookies…
    • The BBC is one of the finest, if not the finest, broadcasters in the world.  They have been admired by many across the world for their journalism.  There have been numerous arrests since their recent expose on convenience shops that cover ups for criminals - money laundering, contraband,  illegal workers and the like. By no means perfect and some of what they have done in the modern world is questionable - the website often comes across as tabloid or sensationalist, as do some of their documentaries, and at times it is full of low grade game shows, fly on the wall etc which bring the punters and money, including overseas, in but is not quality TV.  In their desperation for 'balance' they've given too much air time and credibility to some more extreme views, which contributed to Brexit and some of the rise in right wing parties.  I wish they'd say 'the convicted criminal' every time they talk about Yaxley Lenon. The programme was clumsy, why it didn't go through proper clearance including the lawyers, I don't know.  But it created zero stir at the time. Zero.  And had no impact on the election, so Trump has no case.  I hope they don't cave in like many of the US corporations and media.  Oh and well done to South Park using the small p*nis defence in ridiculing him. What I expect is as the Beeb is pretty centrist in it;s reporting in riles some of those who thrive on the toxic populism we have seen since Trump mark 1 and Brexit.  How sad.
