When did all of these new shop things appear ? There now seems to be a grocers that would not look out of place in Williamsburg - even the staff of these new places seem to have been airlifted from Brooklyn, all whippet thin, with Hitler Yoof haircuts and ironic beards.


Desmonds has morphed into a digital printers/gallery with a life size Hendrix digi canvas gracing the windows

So we seemed to of Cracked it...


Find a run down Slum Area...


Re-open a Derelict Shop.. Rag Roll the walls.. Get a few odd broken chairs..

Sell Sourdough Bread and Jam.. with A pot of Lady Grey Tea.. ?12.00 Per Head..


... and the Area becomes a Village

NO... By All means Open a new Cafe.. Sell food at a price that Local People (Community) can afford.

Not a Yuppie Hut that attracts hoardes of outsiders that clutter up the area with their 4x4's and jeeps..


Do something for the existing community. Do not try and create a up market Ghetto that excludes

The money it costs to open / run a small business or cafe these days, your 60p cup of tea and 90p bacon roll will ensure you close in 6 months, maybe longer if you're willing to give up your life savings.

There are such a range of cafes available in ED and surrounds that surely everyone has somewhere that suits them.

I don't think there any exclusion underway.

No-one says the pubs are excluding people with a pint costing ?4+ a throw !!

Pubs in Peckham area are full of people who could use one less pint and a loaf more of sourdough (this goes for ED too).

Anyway - with a bit of luck they'll attract crowds of yuppies with money to burn which the landlord/owner will see and triple the rent accordingly forcing the veggie-nazis out of business - so it either ends up as a Cafe Nero, a Tesco-Bijou or else stands empty for a decade.

Well the "existing community" had it all to themselves for years & look what a run down sh!thole they made of it.

I've lived here for 7 years and have been gagging for someone to open a provisions store at the bottom of my street.


It's not like you're short of cheap-arsed fruit and veg on Rye Lane is it? Sometimes I don't want my apples to come in a plastic bowl.

nazi grocers


first they came for the My Mums,but I didnt speak as I didnt like their bacon marked produce of EEC


then they came for the Happy shopper, but I didnt speak as I got splitting headaches from their Aspatrame tainted Orange style drink


Then they came for the Costcutter, but I didnt speak as their 3 litre zeppelins of White lightning gave me the runs...

That's right...


I think If I was Prime Minister/Mayor

I would Rule the Country / London my the mood I was in when I woke up in the morning.


One day might exercise strong Right wing views. Ban Unions

Next day might take a Left wing stance..make Unions Compulsary.


Might Scrap the congestion Charge only to reinstate it unannounced.


Remove all traffic signs but retain all restrictions.. Reverse all/some of the one way systems.

Make parking free then paint new yellow lines once people have left their car there.


Have to keep people on their toes..


As for..

I think that was neglect by the Local Council, not the community.

Bullshit.


Did you ever go in the Wishing Well? Mostly empty, mostly unfriendly and mostly a dump.


The Victoria Inn opens, and despite having problems, it's consistently full of locals and families spending money.


Nothing to do with the council. Everything to do with the landlord and the punters.


Build it and they will come. These places are for locals. Just different locals to the ones you imagine. There is room for both.

I popped into teh Vic at the weekend with a woodrot junior for an unscheduled bog stop - it was indeed packed to the rafters with thrusting breeders and their offspring - as I was disshevelled, scowling and unshaven, lurking around the bookcase area waiting for them, several of 'em started eyeing me suspiciously and moved their bags behind them/ phones off the table.

      I have sympathy with any voter, anyone, who having witnessed the last 14 years and then Labour in the last year and wonders just how can things be this bad  unless a) they voted for brexit b) voted Tory after 2010 c) is thinking of voting reform  because anyone who thinks reform won’t make things a thousand times worse after voting for the previous?  It is they who are the problem.  They are the reason the country is in the doldrums with an embarrassingly-timid Labour government

      Yes, all this. Totally Sephiroth. The electorate wants to see transformation overnight. That's not possible. But what is possible is leading with the right comms strategy, which isn't cutting through. As I've said before, messaging matters more now than policy, that's the only way to bring the electorate with you. And I worry that that's how Reform's going to get into power.  And the media LOVES Reform.

      “There was an excellent discussion on Newscast last night between the BBC Political Editor, the director of the IFS and the director of More In Common - all highly intelligent people with no party political agenda ” I would call this “generous”   Labour should never have made that tax promise because, as with - duh - Brexit, it’s pretending the real world doesn’t exist now. I blame Labour in no small part for this delusion. But the electorate need to cop on as well.  They think they can have everything they want without responsibilities, costs or attachments. The media encourage this  Labour do need to raise taxes. The country needs it.  Now, exactly how it’s done remains to be seen. But if people are just going to go around going “la la laffer curve. Liars! String em up! Vote someone else” then they just aren’t serious people reckoning with the problem yes Labour are more than a year into their term, but after 14 years of what the Tories  did? Whoever takes over, has a major problem
