woodrot
"Downham is a district located in south-east London, occupying much of the boundary between the London Borough of Lewisham and the London Borough of Bromley; it is the name of an electoral ward covering much of the area on the Lewisham side. Downham was named in honour of Lord Downham, who was chairman of the London County Council between 1919-20.[1]"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downham Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/30385-peckham-vs-hipsters/#findComment-627664 Share on other sites

Townleygreen
Downham was originally a large council estate built between the wars. Many of the people who moved there came from areas like Rotherhithe, where slums were being cleared. Vicanna
I read somewhere that an area can only be classified as 'hip' once the postmen are delivering in skinny jeans. Otta
Not 20 years ago there weren't!Hipster didn't exist then. Hipsters took all the cool stuff and made it annoyingly pretentious. That is my honest opinion. Since my early 20s I've always liked drinking in "old skool" pubs, because I hate hate hate places that are "cool and hip".Total load of wank. RosieH
Nah, 20 years ago there were definitely hipsters - I know because I myself am cool and hip and hung out there with them. The terminology may have changed, but the man-made fibres certainly haven't.S'just another word for art school style innit.
