This is one of my favourite songs (I'm an old fashioned girl) and I adore Michael Stipe. Not too sure about Natalie Merchant or her strange dress (miaw), but always loving Michael

Lovely Michael Stipe To Sir with Love

Did I just do that right I wonder?

Still on "To Sir With Love", I'm not really a Tina Arena fan - but my partner's appreciation of her brought this song to my attention. The song's a corker!

I heard it done fabulously by Lulu at the Palladium for a Don Black (the lyricist) celebration recently. Anyway (best ignore the visuals and concentrate on the music), for what it's worth, Arena's version (with heavy Savage Garden influences I think):

I was forced to sing "Darlin" by Frankie Miller (though I think the Johnny Reid version is best) whilst doing the cleaning with my mammy when I was young ..My young son sings it now also which always brings a tear to my eye and will stay with me forever!

Blimey, never seen this clip before now. The Faces at the Marquee Club in 1970. Gorgeous song, great band, lovely understated soulful performance, obviously enjoying themselves and have had a few as was their want. Wonderful.

Devotion - The Faces

Mr M - You had the luck of the Irish with the weather for the end of the road! I really pity the poor folk at Bestival last weekend.

Have you been to Union Chapel before? It's such a fabulous venue run by really nice people. In previous years it's where Jo Wiley has held her Little Noise acoustic sessions and she's a woman with an enviable address book at her disposal. I hope she does some more this year; I'll post if she does.

Are there any headbangers from the forum going to the Metallica gig tonight?

    • Pity you didn't quote what you are referring to, Mal. I didn't see the previous post, and my mind is boggling 😮
    • The Cherry Tree was absolutely excellent for a while when a youngish couple ran it and brought in a really good chef. It was them who renamed it The Cherry Tree. They were really turning it around. The chef did fantastic Scotch eggs, and one of the best roasts I've ever had. If memory serves the then owner,  for some reason known only to himself, took a dislike to them and what they were doing and sacked them all. And yes we weren't expecting a top class  meal last Christmas, and we left it too late to book anywhere else, but we weren't expecting it for a hundred pounds EACH to be quite as terrible as it was. Stupid us. Not sure why you are confused by my post, Jazzer? Did I misremember? Now it's got even more confusing because my posts have been merged and your confused emoji is shown at the bottom of the second one instead of the first 🤣
    • Hear hear. Very well said. Thank you and all the best for the year ahead
    • Tried months ago, to get folk together to do something, to say thank you. Been a member of the forum for years and if you had not stepped up, would not be an active  forum. Well administered as well. So from me to you, thanks for keeping it going..  Happy Christmas and blessings and good fortune in 2026 which I am told is The Year of The Horse….
