Looks like I better get the Aphex Twin. I liked Windowlicker. He's a strange guy.

I LIKE Kraftwerk (a german friend once described me as an honorary German, so maybe that's why)- I have Autobahn/TransEurope and Computer World. I am sure more will follow. I also like Steve Lawler - Dark Drums, but we're moving into a different area there. Went through a house phase but it tends to get petty repetetive and formulaic. One family favourite was 'Escape To Formentera' - a nice compilation of more chilled, deeper house-related 'choons'. I am a little surprised about the Propaganda recommendations - I was there in the 80s and I don't know if I want to go back to that whole Sarm West thing. However, several have mentioned them...

It doesn't strictly have to be electronic, but I like avant-garde AND listenable (nay, multiple repeat listenable) things. I am a big jazz fan too, but more along the lines of Miles Davis/John Coltrane (esp. 'A Love Supreme' - incredible mind-melter)/Weather Report and others, but getting into that area is like getting into classical. A deep place to mine.

the knife are brilliant. the album deep cuts and the other one is silent shout, both are fab. I have downloaded another of theirs but have yet to listen to it, its called we share our mothers health.

fischerspooner are also worth a listen.

Its a good idea to get up to the library and check out the 1001 best albums promotions that they have on at the mo. They have a ll 1001 albums and there are a quite a few electronic masterpieces among the usual suspects. If you like jazz try Roni Sizes 'Newforms' a stunning blend of jazz, soaring vocals and rolling beats that has real longevity(10 years and counting).LTJ Bukems 'Logical Progression' is a slab of jazz tinged D&B that is near as damned perfect.

crikey this is the second time in five minutes i've agreed with louisiana - i've had propaganda's a secret wish on my ipod almost continually for some weeks now.

please dont miss out on our own electronica originators - the sheffield sound - early human league, heaven 17, and the fantastically influential cabaret voltaire.

and fourquid, the trick to enjoying kraftwerk is to get their lps in german; no longer odd german blokes singing in karaoke english, but deadly serious teutonic social commentary. of a sort...

Not sure I'm convinced by Kraftwerk personally, although I'm sure a lot of credit is due. Personally Fabric 09/Jacques Lu Cont never comes out of my CD Player and also a big fan of the Buzzin' Fly compilations mixed by Ben Watt.

Essential Electronic Albums (in no particular order...)

1. Discovery - Daft Punk

2. Moon Safari - Air

3. Night Works - Layo & Bushwacka

4. Echoes - The Rapture (not technically Electronic but still awesome)

5. A Special Album - Ralph Myerz and the Jack Herren Band

6. Animal Magic and/or Days To Come - Bonobo

7. Soulstickers - Timewriter

8. Dystopia - Midnight Juggernauts

9. Pretty much anything by Lemon Jelly

And Politics by Sebastien Tellier is worth a listen too, although did take a while to get into.

Chuffed about this thread...am a DJ and was thinking of canvassing a few bars about staging an electronic night somewhere in ED. Sounds like it could be a go'er!

    • I don't think a single specific URL is easily doable.  When you enter a search the system presents the result without any of one's search parameters added to the URL.  So I suggest you go to https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/search.do?action=advanced where you just need to enter the address -- use SE22 8EW -- and the  Date Received start date.  I used 1/1/2025.  The three Tesco applications, all minor things, were all made in May.  The Simple search that I'd done previously had no time limit, and didn't include anything else that might have been from Tesco in the last two years. Incidentally, when I searched on the address 29-35 Lordship Lane it did not pick up the Tesco applications, which were held as 29 - 35 Lordship Lane Grrr!
