Mr Ben's mentioning of burgers in NYC on the thread about Gourmet Burger Kitchen got me thinking about how useful a thread on our favourite bars and restaurants abroad would be.

So...

In Sydney, my fave place is Awaba at Balmoral Beach

In Manchester, it's Greens in Didsbury (no website I can find, though I have done in the past)

In Brussels, it's Le Belgica

like the way TooMuchCoffeeMan refers to Manchester

abroad!

Johnny Rocket's in Miami South Beach - much better burgers than GBK but also really cool for its "Scarface" connection

Cafe Schuh in Interlaken

(But my favouritest cafes ever - although not abroad, even though Cambridge, like Manchester, is North of Watford Gap - were the Corner House in Cambridge and Diana's Diner in Endell Street, Covent Garden - both sadly missed :()

Jah - you say that like it's a bad thing!

Sure the world is just a big village and we're all God's children

Drink:

HiB in Cork

Tunnel Top - San Fran

Souths - NYC

Double Locks - Exeter

Eats: (not always about the BEST food - but the right place with the right food)

used to also include Double Locks in Exeter

Les Halles for a nice steak - NYC

I'm sure I'll think of more later

Da Nino, Letojanni, Sicily.

Two doors down from the apartment where we spent our honeymoon. We watched the fishing boat come in while we had breakfast on our balcony and ate whatever they'd caught that evening. Also, a lovely sommelier, who was really a budding actor between jobs, who guided us through Sicilian wine (dangerous territory for an amateur) and entertained us.

Happy, happy memories... :))

Can you remember what it's called? Am off there in a few weeks and always on the lookout for good seafood.

Ps. what a perfect thread for name/place dropping.

All in Tauranga NZ:

Somerset Cottage - The closest thing to gourmet nz cuisine that we could find, but spectacular once found: lamb shanks to die for.

Turkish to Go near Mount Maunganui for the most overloaded falafel wrap i've ever gone to town on.

Alimento for eggs benedict or other lazy brunch of choice.

Pre Catalan in Paris - especially in summer eating out under the (I think) chestnut trees in the Bois de Boulogne

Second SeanMc on Les Halles in New York, although my behaviour last time I was there rather put a dampener on dinner

And second Jah too, but showing off is fun, doubly so if required to eat amazing food to do so

I haven't a clue I'm afraid, but I reckon it has to be the most southern restaurant in Europe.I was there in 1998, so it might not be there anymore. They had a balcony on the cliffs which over looked a beach (Tonel?) and it was on the southern side of the forte. Will try to find out for you.

I lived in Andalucia for 6 months last year, and as a vegetarian, I was pretty glad to get down to Hebrolta just for a change of (culinary) scene, and to get away from ham being sprinkled on everything.

Other than that, my fave place to eat in Spain was...my kitchen.

    • Hi there, Our Lexus NX300H, (reg RF18BWO) was stolen off our driveway last night, Monday 27th October. It was there at 9pm, and had gone by 7am. If anyone has any footage on their doorbell or Ring, that would be super helpful. We have asked some neighbours and reported to the police etc.  Most upsettingly, there was a box of old family videos in the car boot, in an old Sainsburys box (photo attached). If anyone sees these dumped at the side of the road, please contact me asap! They are priceless videos that my deceased grandparents took. Thank you for any info, Jojo
    • Another shout out for Milk & More - their app allows you to alter the order, add or subtract to it and also to schedule holiday stops without having to leave messages in bottle - so more secure. You do have to set up a direct debit with them, but I haven't had any problems with that myself. I have had one or two missed or late deliveries in several years, but not really a problem - only very occasional and caused mainly by delivery-person illness. And very much feels like an old-fashioned milk delivery. They do special seasonal offers as well. More expensive than the cheapest of the super market milk prices, but for that its at your door, fresh and no bother.
    • Enjoying the nostalgia and memories.  As with others, we get ours through Milk and More (is part of big co, so there is that against it, but it's hardly a secret/niche thing) - returnable glass bottles of milk, orange juice, yoghurt, and much more besides (as per the name). And yes it comes in the middle of the night in an electric vehicle. So can still get out nostalgia fix, doubled when the Riverford chap comes too.
    • This sounds like what goes on at Tessa Jowell GP surgery as well as others.   If you can flag yourself up as a ‘vulnerable’ patient or one that can’t use Apps for whatever reason etc then you can usually make appts by phone. They would have to make allowances. Quote the Equality Act 2010,  reasonable adjustments section.
