When people talk about Fergie having fallen short in European achievements, it's worth noting that no manager has won the Champions Leagure more than twice, and, comparing him to say Guardiola, it's arguably more impressive that Fergie won it twice with the same club but with two completely different teams, both of which he effectively built himself.

Scotch Bob has to play something like 9 games to win each of his Yuropean cups - I would suggest that Scotch Alex had a far greater task ahead of him with his Yuropean cup runs. But hey, as a neutral, what do I know.

Difficult to see it happening in the short term. Man U have been far and away the most secure of the 'Big Four'(never outside the top three in the history of the Premier League). In fact, Liverpool are the exception (so far) of a club who seem to have fallen out of the Big Four.

Top four finishes in last 10 seasons:

Man U - 10

Arsenal - 10

Chelsea - 9

Liverpool - 5 - none since 08/09.

I can easily see Man Utd suffering for several seasons, and not all of it the new manager's fault

Chelsea are an aberration just because of the sheer wealth and ruthlessness of Abramovich (and a core of talented if petulant, unlikable players established years ago)

But Man Utd and Arsenal are consistent top 4 managers simply because of the way two extremely talented managers "owned" their respective clubs. I've been saying for a long time that both Arsenal and Man Utd will suffer when their respective managers leave and I stand by that

Man Utd aren't going to tumble down the table - they do still have a lot of talent on the books. But they will lose games they wouldn't have before

Moyes will have pressure like he hasn't experienced before

SAF will be around the place and his comments will haunt the new man

So, like the Tories with Major they will be relatively successful for a while but they won't be what they were, and trouble behind the scenes will be their undoing

Yeah, they probably won't go liverpool, but I doubt anyone can achieve that consistent domination even with a talented squad.

So whilst they'll probabloy remain top four for many years I doubt they'll be winning every other premiership any more.

Perhaps the phrase I was looking for is 'go all arsenal on us' ;)

Could be wishful thinking but it's possible there could be a similar scenario as when Sir Matt Busby first stood down. Mind you David Moyes is no Wilf McGuiness or Frank O'Farrell, he is a top manager and for me a perfect fit but there could be a little slip down the table like Liverpool in recent years.
