why do  they need support??

Because they are under attack from those who disapprove of their live-style/ chosen hobby - or profession. I agree about discussions of the merits of giving the oxygen of publicity to rather sad people who are frightened of difference, but that doesn't mean that those under attack shouldn't have support. If you see six people who hate you, but 20 who support you, you feel less bullied.

Unfortunately fascists tend to be annoyingly persistent. They're not like spaniels that will just lose interest if you ignore them for long enough.

They're not fascists either. This word is used far too readily as a blanket term for anyone with views to the right of centre these days.

But yes these kind of counter protests add fuel to the flames. If there hadn't been a counter protest outside the EDF, Lozza Fox et al would never have made the 6 o'clock news.

You can't call people fascists because they don't agree with you and then justify that by saying you're Woke.

If you feel that there is social injustice, the thing to do is go ahead and turn up and show your support - and find out what you can actively do to make things better.

Sometimes things are more complicated - are the protests trans-phobic? or what is the message?

Discourse is usually the best first step. If the concern is that by turning up and showing your support, that there will be a bigger focus on the protest and that will allow those protesting to air their views - is that not welcome? to allow people to have an open forum to discuss their views?

If nothing else, it will highlight any issues that need to be addressed.

It's ok to not agree with things, but there's a difference between still treating others with respect and being vengeful towards those you don't agree with.

Turning point are bullies, they are trying to impose their hateful values on to others. I'm pretty sure the drag story time doesn't affect them in any form. If you don't like it simply don't go along, it's a choice! But when they are actively attacking people that's when support is required.

Perhaps someone can advise which rights the trans people are being denied.

That aside, the filming shows just how useless the Met Police are. Poorly trained and ignorant of the law. Not fit for purpose.

They  failed to respond to the fact that Alexander was physically assaulted. In fact he was treated as though he was at fault.

I use the word "fascists" to describe the fascists who have previously attended these events. Hope this helps.

Alexander, have you got anything constructive to say about the protest or are you going to keep on posting irrelevant GC propaganda?

From reports, there were at least 80 Turning Point protesters who were allowed by the Met to stand across the road from the pub, while they were around 500 pro drag protesters, including Labour MP Vicky Foxcroft who apparently attended today as well.

It's nice to know that not all Labour MPs aren't all like Rosie Duffield.

I don’t know any of the young blue-haired spicy straights who use the term “trans”.

But I used to know quite well an old-style transsexual who bitterly regretted the self-harm of “transition”.  He was a gay man who had been fed the lie that it’s possible to change sex.  It isn’t.

So you're basing your ideas about trans people on blue haired spicy straights and an old transsexual who was a gay man and regretted transition? Sad. You need to get out more and meet some trans people.  Put some effort into doing so instead of moaning about a minority group you know nothing about behind your screen.

Strange bedfellows: the Communist Party of Britain which is an apologist for North Korea, and Spiked which grew out of Living Marxism, which denied the genocide in Bosnia. (As an aside, LM's founder and occasional visitor to East Dulwich Frank Furedi is now in the pay of Hungarian PM Viktor Orban. I won't upset anyone by describing Orban is a fascist, but will merely point out that he is opposed to "race mixing"...)

Prominent Jewish figures around the world are calling on the United Nations and world leaders to impose sanctions on Israel over what they describe as “unconscionable” actions amounting to genocide in Gaza. Over 450 signatories, including former Israeli officials, Oscar winners, authors and intellectuals have signed an open letter demanding accountability over Israel’s conduct in Gaza, the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. The letter’s release comes as EU leaders meet in Brussels on Thursday amid reports they plan to shelve proposals for sanctions over human rights violations. “We have not forgotten that so many of the laws, charters, and conventions established to safeguard and protect all human life were created in response to the Holocaust,” the signatories write. “Those safeguards have been relentlessly violated by Israel.” ..."   There is also a petition we can sign to support them in their call for justice: Direct link: https://secure.avaaz.org/campaign/en/stand_with_jews_demand_action_loc_cp1/?tUwBCsb&v=502713833&cl=22394973010&_checksum=7dc99acb5dd4fc5a43a24e21772f51005ea239753e9ae3033d9f79ffd6119559 "For the first time since the ceasefire, a powerful coalition of Jewish voices have come together, urging world leaders to keep the pressure up until real accountability and freedom are achieved.Their call can shift the political mood and give leaders courage to act decisively -- Amplify their voices and stand with them: The demands of Global Jewish Voices: To respect and abide by the decisions of the International Court of Justice, noting their application also in the West Bank and East Jerusalem; to apply arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court; and to resist efforts to unduly pressure and influence and prevent the workings of both courts.
