Is the name of the pop up pub opposite Gipsy Hill station.

In it this weekend, Mr. Jah Lush and I shifted several gallons of the most delicious bitters I've ever had.

The Bedlam bitter is a thing of beauty and so is the cider with ginger.

It may close in a couple of weeks so I suggest you get round there.

Glad you folks found it. I stuck a recommendation on the "craft beers" thread but didn't think anyone had noticed it. They do very good (and relatively cheap!) wines and whiskies too :)

I have heard that they might well be able to renew their 3 month pop-up, plus the initiative comes from a new craft brewery in Penge as I understand it: 'Late Knights Brewery'.

They haven't been able to renew their lease, alas, but they are on a rolling one-month, looking for somewhere else nearby. Agree with the comments above - brilliant bar and friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Seems a shame that EDers need to go all the way there for something so good and straightforward, but I fear ED rents would preclude anything like this happening nearer to home.

I had one of the Scotch eggs. Debloodylicious. They also do a deal with the nearby curry house. You get ten per-cent off your order. I think they may have had one lager on the go, possibly bottled but no one took a blind bit of notice of it. It was largely ignored and made to feel like a bad fart in a crowded lift.

In the loveliest possible way I read/heard these posts as SteveO as a mildly guttered, expansive Stephen Fry (to the point where you could call him 'Steve') and Jah Lush as a sober Keith Richards where he uses his 'English' voice'.

Glad you had a good time.

They were outbid for that when it went on the market some months ago. The developer who acquired it is letting it sit empty though, which is galling.

Ha ha ha I giggled when I read that. Thank you Mr B. Indeed we did and how very perceptive of you. Not that far from the truth as Mr Steveo is as erudite as Mr Fry. Do join us for a sherbet sometime or if you find yourself in the near vicinity of the above bar pop in and enjoy the goods before it's too late. Chin chin old chap.

    • London doesn’t have a lot of Argentinian places specialising in empanadas, which suggests demand isn’t that great. There are many neighbourhoods with none at all or even nearby.  So for a mini-chain like Chango (several branches in SW London) to open here where there’s already a well established family run place doing the same feels a bit off.  I’ll be giving Chacarero my ongoing custom.
    • This is so helpful, everyone, thank you. @green bean Yes we have just (as of yesterday) installed the same external blinds you mention! We already had blackout blinds and we now have the external awnings too. Of course that will guarantee the end of the summer sunshine but I can see that they're going to be helpful as they let the light through but not the glare of the sun - I'm fed up of working in darkness with both the blackout blinds closed on sunny days. We'll see how we go with those for a bit but I reckon we'll get a couple of quotes from the other recommendations in case we end up going the whole hog. @penfold Love the idea of getting solar+batteries to offset the electricity usage so will look into that.  Thanks, all.
    • Yes Sally, I've emailed him several times since Xmas. I don't contact Councillors frequently but when I've done so over the years, I've found them generally engaged and responsive. It's unprecedented to just be ignored and, regardless of the query I'm raising, that's worrying from the point of view of  our local democratic voice. Its a Councillors role to represent local people! A different thread on here made reference to a lack of response from one of our ward councillors and, since there are only two, I'm guessing it's the same one. I'm following up my own concern separately but I'm asking on here about whether others have had the same problem. I'd like to think it's a one-off but, increasingly, I suspect it's not. Hope that gives a bit more context!
