Not sure if football is allowed off the Football Focus thread but so what

I'm looking forward to this a lot without the emotional involvement of England. I think there maybe some great betting opportunities too. Any thoughts picks? At the moment I have to (reluctantly) go for Germany given their group, proximity to home and Ballacks form.

Did you see quids, that west ham had the highest Englishness in the Permiership this season (average 6.6 players per game), whilst Arsenal were lowest averaging just 0.3.

Just an aside.

I hope so too Sean.

My sympathy also goes with Croatia who are a decent dark horse punt I reckon, difficult to breakdown and beaten a lot of big teams, Argentina, England....

My suspicion is the ever dependable Germans however.

I never actually enjoy England's games as such (well, not since we twatted the Dutch 4-1), so I can actually sit back, relax and enjoy good football this time round.

I fully support Spain, but for some reason I don't get quite the same knotted tension as watching England, despite their Englandlike ability to get themselves stupidly knocked out of tournaments.

I won't have the stress and strain of watching another damp squib performance by England and the bunch of overrated under-performing timewasters who play for them.

I won't have to endure another round of Wag photos and gossip splashed all over the tabloids.

I won't have to sit through the total saturation on telly by advertisers who jump on the bandwagon of Team England.

I won't have to squirm whilst watching all the yobs and louts, who travel to these tournaments supporting England, kicking off in some otherwise tranquil European town centre.

I won't have to put up with all the chavs and divs wearing their replica England shirts and spouting their uninformed xenophobic rubbish in every pub the length and breadth of the country.

I can't wait for the tournament to start!

I agree about enjoying it without the potential of embarrassment from England on a few fronts - I really enjoyed USA 1994 for the same reason.

For those interested, current Betfair prices to win

Germany 5.2

Spain 7

Italy 8.2

Holland 8.8

France 10

Portugal 14.5

Croatia 16

Money on France, Germany and Italy looks like a decent shout (although France and Italy are in the same group)

    • Thanks P. That sounds like a bargain compared to other horror stories I've heard!
    • DD, "Rejoice rejoice. It's a pity he and his fellow clowns were completely annihilated at the ballot box. I mean they were doing so well after all 🙃🙃" At least the economy and unemployment weren't in the mess they are now. What is it, give the public sector a whopping pay increase with no strings attached, double the black hole and then blame it on the last Govt. Give me strength. Rachel from accounts shouldn't be anywhere near the economy. The final straw was increasing employer NI contributions and look how that's worked out. Month on month both inflation and unemployment have risen. Won't be long before inflation and u/e are exceeding 5%, but guess what, They'll blame Sunak and go.  Lets have a snap election right NOW, then see how poorly Starmer, Reeves and Rainer do. They're already plotting to get rid of Starmer, and if you think its bad now, you ain't seen nothing yet. Oh and did I mention Starmer wanting to stop Freedom of Speech............................................Normal people can see right through what him and co are doing, great at spending other peoples money, him and co don't have = bankruptcy. We'll just repeat the economic collapse that happened in Greece and wasn't it in Italy as well?
    • One of the best of Shakespeare 's plays.  I did Othello for A level. Also seen a number of stage and film versions. Is there any specific aspects of the play that is difficult for your daughter to understand?
    • @Sue think this is your quote.  It wasn't binary, good Vs bad, and Corbyn had a lot of popular support, as evidenced by the previous election. He had aot of good policies, some picked up by others since. He was defeated by a mixture of a right wing press, good targeting the Johnson 'Get Brexit Done" and for some that Johnson was a funny loveable rogue/fool/liar/philander/opportunist.  I wouldn't see choosing the perceived least worst candidate out of the two major parties as being "good sense'.  We imagine that Corbyn would have been terrible, but we don't know.  He would have taken a stronger line against Israel in Gaza, not sucked up to Trump nut on Russia?  Would the UK be better for that?
