Car crash. I have no words. Holly Willoughby actually looses it.




Putting aside that the Katie woman is an insufferable snob and my jaw hit the floor, does anyone agree with her? The "worm" showed 9% for and 91% against. 9% is not insignificant so she has support.


Thoughts?


BTW, for the forum old timers like myself, I found myself wondering whatever happened to our very own Dulwich Mum?

Fair point Jeremy.


I think there is a big gap though between disliking certain names as typical working / middle class, and actually discouraging your kids from being friends with thise kids.


Some people may have opinions on the names I've given my kids, but I would hope they wouldn't assume that they are a particular type of kid because of that name.

This was cringeworthy viewing, but I laughed a lot when Katie, having stated she disliked "location" names like Brookyn and Paris, then revealed she had a child called India. Class and brains don't necessarily go hand in hand.


There are names I dislike, and am guilty of joking about, but there's a difference between that and actively preventing your kids from associating with children due to their names.

I think she's crackers. On a personal note I was also upset by her jibes on Facebook about ginger babies ( I am ginger with three little gingers) and her comment ' ginger babies, like normal babies but harder to love' I found really terrible. I'm aware ginger ism is th last form of acceptable racism... ( interestingly friends from ethnic minorities have huge issues with the shit I take bout being red haired, white English claim its banter- discuss?). She is horrible, we should just discourage programmes from giving her screen time.

Actually I reckon I was the other side of the coin to Katie, I point-blank refused to allow my son Plasterer to socialise with his schoolmates Poppy and Maximillian.

His little six year old self was gutted. Totally gutmans. But I know that what I forbade was correct.


When he grew to adulthood he changed his name to Pilates and has never spoken to me since.

I hear I now have a daughter-in-law by the name of Nasturtium whom I've never met.


So, if I had my time over again, I wouldn't change a thing.


I know I was right.

I was in a staffroom once and a young female teacher had her new class lists and was reading out some names (mainly boys) and said that these children are going to be trouble. One of them had the same name as my very successful son and I told her so - but the fact that she had this attitude and others seemed to agree with her was quite disturbing- she was a 'stuck-up' Lucy!

You say behave about calling it racism. I've been followed whilst groups have called me names and had abuse all my life based on nothing more than my hair colour. I've been in tears at times and had to go not shops to ask for assistance. As I said, people often dismiss it as banter but the surely any form of name calling/ opinions being given based on appearance or characteristics that you don't choose but are born with, that is racism/ discrimination?


Perhaps you have been lucky enough to not have random strangers call you names about your appearance throughout your life but unfortunately that's not been mine....

If there were more ginger people in the UK, there may be more consequences. There have been some pretty horrific examples of abuse, they just don't get widely reported...

      Do we still get 50+ outdoor community events per year?       @CPR DaveWe are talking about Lambeth Council, not Southwark, but I agree. It will be interesting to see if Lambeth fill part of that space with another hire out to a private events company.  As to the idea that what is gained financially from hiring out Peckham Rye Park is a good trade off, does not account for long-term damage to the park and the loss of access to the community for a month at least, in the best summer months where trees and shrubs are in full bloom and animals are birthing or rearing youngsters. For the Council to claim they are 'green' when they allow this is hypocrisy at its finest. @Northern Star Thanks, so they say. I'd love to see a list of these high quality free events and what they entail. I am not aware of any high quality free events in and around ED. Stand to be corrected though. Crikey, seems like they cannot even let Lordship Lane have Christmas lights this year.
