Rye Hotel Very Poor Boozer

Recommended Posts

I had a meal in there the other week that was quite hot with chillies. I being the being the brave little soldier that I am ate it despite not being a big fan of chillies. I wondered how I managed not to notice the chilli ingredient on the menu. As I was leaving I grabbed a menu looked at that particular dish and chilli was not mentioned. Quite an important ingredient to miss off I think. They didn't seem very apologetic when I pointed it out either.
I have a few beers in The Rye a couple of times a week. In my view, one of the best pubs (out of a lot of very good pubs) in the area. Marks and Spencer of pubs? That was doubtless meant to be a put-down, but just as I'd rather shop in a Marks rather than in some poorly-stocked "Best-In/Bobby's" corner shop, so I'd rather drink in a Marks and Spencer of pubs rather than a corner-shop equivalent.
if you are looking for a good garden for the children and reasonable food, I think that excellent pub food is a thing of the past really!! It seems all about making a profit, which after all they are a business!!! The Herne Tavern on the corner of Forest Hill Road is very good they have an excellent climbing frame with a slide, all the kids love it there !!! Give it a try..... Apparently the White Horse at the top of Peckham Rye is meant to have an excellent Sunday lunch... I personally havent eaten in there, but many people I know have and they all rave about the amount, quality and price !!!

    • A long overdue review for Niko who we have used a number of times over the years, sometimes to properly finish a job that other plumbers have not done properly. He thinks of everything! I only ever use another plumber if it's urgent and Niko is away. A really kind and thoughtful man and totally trustworthy

The coding session would be good but you need to book well in advance. Also grandson has been doing coding since 6 years old. He now has a 'mentoring role' at his primary school as his knowledge of this subject is years above his chronological age. Dates are still up in the air as their father is trying to juggle leave from a new job in the north of the country.
    • why not have a pasty shop - we could have Cornish pasties, Jamaican patties, empanadas from all the different regions.... I like all three.  I'm still going to support the Chacarero family business, as I don't support chains, just as I don't buy anything from Gail's, Nero, Starbucks etc.
    • Thought it had been a fish and chip shop at one time?
