Brendan
Right, this has been a floater on other threads for a while now and also the subject of few drunken conversations. You know those emphatically sincere conversations that turn up to haunt you in the cold light of day. None the less a few of you have already expressed your interest in an East Dulwich pub crawl this summer. It will be a chance to stroll our streets, take in the local scenery, the varied ambiances of our diverse watering holes and of course to partake in their produce. All are welcome, from those fresh-faced and new to this whole forum thing to those so far gone with the Forumitis they are reading this off their blueberry and about to walk into a lamp post. Now my inner anarchist is loath to bed down with such prohibitive concepts as when and where but I do think that we should decide on a date and a route in order to maximise our enjoyment of this little perambulation. It would be silly if we all did it on different days now wouldn?t it? So for those of you interested when would a good date be? I was thinking mid- late July? One last thing. The term Pub Crawl may be a bit misleading. You do not have to crawl from pub to pub unless you want to. Enjoyment will not by sullied by rules and your method of locomotion is entirely up to you*. Personally I recommend travelling by conga line. * No driving mind. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3491-ed-pub-crawl-26th-july/ Share on other sites

lozzyloz
Sounds like a great idea. Any thoughts on a route? I ONCE did it from The Magdala to The EDT via Liquorice, Inside 72, Palmerston, Black Cherry and The Bishop. Don't remember taking in much local scenery though! Keef
Very early forum thread on just this subject - *bob* wasn't even registered!I'm in... Things have changed since the above thread (mainly The Plough). For a real mission, may I suggest;Start at The Plough, walk down Crystal Palace Road, stop at The Castle, head down to the CPT, take Pellat Road down to The Mag, work down Lordship Lane past Franklins & Licorice, stop at Palmerston, head up Northcross via The Drum, swifty in The Uplands, then mission it to The Hearne (make sure you have a wee before leaving the uplands), then to The Clockhouse. After this we walk around to Goose Green (maybe just maybe doing a detour for the Gowlett), to the EDT, then to the Cherry, then The Bishop (cos it's open latest even though I personally hate the place).Think that more or less covers everywhere... The Dog is a bit too far off track I think...When is an issue, I'm totally skint right now, and July is a bit busy... Peckhamgatecrasher
Shouldn't you include The Rye after the Clockhouse and then on to The Gowlett? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3491-ed-pub-crawl-26th-july/#findComment-108871 Share on other sites

Brendan
Ah. But there is a difference between advice and instruction. Advice being something like, ?Do you really think it is a good idea to ride this down that after drinking all of those??Whereas instruction is that fascist sat-nav woman telling me where to bloody turn. Perhaps we should let the gods decide this. We can get a map of ED with the pubs marked on it. Blindfold someone and get them to throw darts at the map. Then work out a route depending on where the darts land. If it works well we could suggest it to Gordon Brown as an aid to making policy decisions. Keef
I'd happily leave a few places out, hearne cos It's out the way's as is the clockhouse. Franklins cos it's more of an eating place, liquorice and bishop because they're both rubbish! SeanMacGabhann
if you avoid late night at weekends Bishop is fine. Ditto LiqourishOk - still not very "pubby" but the vibe is generally ok. And they both manage to be quieter than EDT. I met some people there on Sun night and the volume of noise is unbelievable. I know it's the stone floors and I wouldn't want to see them go but it's deafening in there. I still love the place ...
