I'm not a huge fan of the current incarnation of the Mag... but it does seem strange that you say you'd like it to be similar to the Palmerston or Franklins, when those two places are just a couple of minutes walk down the road. I'd rather have a place which offered something a bit different.

Exactly what Jeremy said!!!

Whether or not we all want the same things, it takes 10 minutes to walk from the mag to goose green, and in that space, you have 2 cocktail bars, with a third to open soon, 2 posh foody type pubs, 2 busy pubs (Bish & EDT), so whynot something slightly different.

Again, I'm with Jeremy and Keef, although I must admit I didn't go in there before the yello incarnation. I've mainly been there for the Sunday evening quizzes, which were always for me the most enjoyable (although the most rowdy) quizzes in the area.

Maybe a re-fit might be a good time to fit some decent sound-absorbing stuff and try and make it a bit quieter for the residents without removing the personality of the place. Maybe.

: P

Does that mean it might become a boutique !!

Mmmmm, surely the owners of Le Chandelier would be better off sorting out their current venture before launching into something new? (judging by many comments read on here and my own less-than-fantastic experience.)

I dread to think what the offering will be - for girly I'm afraid I read snotty.

This comment is no reflection on Grace and Favour. But surely somewhere that large really needs solid experience and a strong track record to succeed... particularly in the current climate?

    • Unfortunately there are two ways of examining this, if we even had the figures. The first is simply to look at the revenues paid to the Council and see if the costs (in terms of setting it up and recovery from it, including administrative cost) are less than the revenues. This would be quite simple to do assuming we could agree the proper allocation of those costs. But additionally we have the amenity cost to those Southwark residents either (a) losing amenity value through e.g. disruption, and secondly losing amenity value by being excluded from parts of a public park for an extended period in summer. That is not a fiscal cost to the council and clearly they don't give a damn, but that would be the only way of judging whether this event was of overall net benefit to Southwark residents, the only people who the council should be 'working' for. Don't hold your breaths.
