I think thalis are pretty boring, whether on a leaf or not!

Ganapati change their menus regularly, but if there's something you particularly like from a previous menu I think they would try to do it for you, assuming they had the ingredients in :)

They do do other things on leaves - eg an amazing crab starter .... yum :)

The meat was rather tough (both my duck and my g/f's lamb), and I expected more flavour. My friends also seemd underwhelmed by theirs (squid, and the thali thing). I think it should have been better considering the price.

The first time I went there I liked it. Maybe we were a little unlucky this time.

KidKruger - that made me smile. You'll be lucky to get anything less than Rs250 in the wealthy UK. I recently ate in a South Indian restaurant in Glasgow's Merchant City and I couldn't believe that a dosa cost ?10! 700 bucks? ::o

Which reminds me....ED doesn't have anywhere to eat like this

Re posting on a thread before reading it. Ganapati "only" mentioned 5 times previous to this post.

I think that whole area has been subject to 'regeneration' or whatever its called..my brother works nearby so knows some nice places for lunch. Could do with a lime soda now...

What about a pie and mash shop in ED? Or even better....just mash? Mmmmmm :))

Yeah....I can visualise an 'East Dulwich Mash Cafe' on Northcross Road with people dressed up as 'giant potatoes' handing out menus and special offers outside. There will be potato-patterned tablecloths and matching wallpaper....

There is NOTHING like that in ED so it is definitely missing this food-wise and wholly relevant to the topic ;-)

I like how there is a picture of one of the staff members outside eating! They do have nice pizzas. I rate the Il Mirto version with sausage and sheep's cheese and their tuna one which you can get without cheese. They also have their sister restaurant across the park in Nunhead.

It's like saying 'there's a Tesco on Queens Road Peckham, why should there be one on East Dulwich Road'?

OOoohhh....

A Sausage Shop & cafe

I'd love that...

It could be called "Lick my bangers, then take them away"

Or "Yes please, I like a big sausage " Cafe & Shop

( like the one in Beckenham )

The Gowlett does have fab pizza. We ate just once at Il Mirto and our food was awful - burnt garlic bread with chunks of bitter raw garlic and the Chicken "special" that we watched them cook in the microwave!

Bangers and Mash gets my vote too. Simple and tasty.

You went to a pizza restaurant and didn't have a pizza? That is all I have ever had there except for some olives and bread. I think the Gowlett pizza can be ok but the edges are usually burnt and dry and the quality does not justify the price.

Ganapati had succulent chicken but at forty quid for two of us,

a touch expensive and for Peckham it was top whack really.

We arrived at sixish and it was empty except for two couples, the waitress said loudly and accusingly "have you booked", the place was packed full of empty tables, so that irritated me.

Never bothered to return, the pushy 'I'm doing you a favour' waitress was enough to put me off for life, the food was good but not outstanding and the size of the bill is what I remember most after the obnoxious waitress.
