Yuuna
Amico Bio anyone? London's first Italian Organic Vegetarian restaurant. I went there for my niece's 17th birthday - the food was delicious. I'm not a vegetarian and neither is she; we just tried something different. They even served tempura. It wasn't up to my Japanese standard but it was pretty good! Okay, that's enough of the Amico Bio plug. It would be nice if one opened in East Dulwich... I think vegetarian options tend to be hit and miss like gluten free ones. (I remember going to Pizza Express and noticing, under the pasta section, a gluten free dish with no pasta. What? No rice/maize pasta...) I try to be conscious of this at my restaurant (I am a chef) and provide a varied menu. However, meat does sell well so I wouldn't go vegetarian, just yet especially as I predominantly cook Japanese food (we LOVE meat) and even our broths/soups are meat based... It is partly supply and demand. Being a vegetarian is a lifestyle choice; however well meaning it is. Unfortunately, many restaurants often don't cater much to this. James
>>Just because someone is veggie does not mean that they eat a more sustainable diet than a meat eater (am not anti-veggie by the way, just want to make a point). Categorically incorrect, as meat is more unsustainable Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/37874-the-patch/page/12/#findComment-694240 Share on other sites
KidKruger
Surely it's more sustainable to just stroll down the kebab shop for a doner than waste all that time and energy growing vegetables in a field, what with tractors n petrol and all ?ETA: changed body organ transplantee to greasy filthy meat dish ! James
What sort of donor? A heart donor? Yes, as a meat eater you may be needing one of those at some point. Yuuna
Remember we aren't carnivores - we eat more than just meat. Eating meat would be more sustainable if we didn't over kill and waste it. There is so much excess; it's shameful. I'm not a big meat eater over here - the quality of the meat and price is off putting. Where I'm from, we eat A LOT of pig; I mean everything! I don't know any vegetarians from back home. Don't get me wrong, we love our vegetation; we just must eat meat. Vegetarianism is seen as quite Western - I even hear people questioning whether it would make you fat...Asians. Sue
I thought the discussion on the pros and cons of vegetables blah in general had been shelved in favour of discussing the title of the thread? And maybe vegetables as specifically pertaining to The Patch? No? Oh well. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/37874-the-patch/page/12/#findComment-694307 Share on other sites

Sue
OK then, back on topic! The Patch's website has disappeared - it just says "coming soon" now. From their Facebook page:The Patch27 MarchWe love beer!!!Especially if it is lovingly made by fellow beer lovers in our area! Although we will have a very extensive selection of established names and brands, we can now confirm that we will also be offering the best of what the local micro breweries can offer...so stay tuned, or suggest breweries we have not heard about yet. ThanksIs this beer from local micro breweries still happening? Also - what exactly do they mean when they call themselves "independent", "community owned and managed" and "self-sufficient"?"Gastro-pub" I understand, the rest I still do not.I really don't want to sound (or be) negative, I really want to support local businesses, but right from the beginning - about a year ago now - the messages coming from the Patch have been quite confusing, and nobody seems to be willing to clarify things.Has their business plan changed since the Kickstarter initiative did not bring in the money they hoped? As somebody else on here said, when The Ivy House was selling its community shares, a number of people on this forum were extremely negative. They said that The Ivy House had no chance whatsoever of being successful as a pub. Representatives of The Ivy House team came on here and responded to those negative comments, in great detail. Their business plan and everything else was very transparent, and has continued to be so. They have invited feedback, both positive and negative, and where possible have acted on it.And happily, so far those EDF purveyors of doom have been proved very wrong. But one wonders what would have happened if those negative comments had just festered unanswered on that thread about The Ivy House. Wouldn't people have thought that they must be true? Why do the team from The Patch seem so unwilling to engage with their potential customers - their "community", in fact! - on here? Unfortunately, it does make it appear as if they aren't able to answer the questions being asked, even if that isn't the case :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/37874-the-patch/page/12/#findComment-694506 Share on other sites
PandG
You are being negative again Sue - wait and see what they do when it's properly running and support local businesses - you and the other clique (curry club & sing alongers) are so negative! Jeremy
You may have some valid points Sue, but you've made them time and time again (along with the inevitable Ivy House comparisons). It's a bit much.Obviously the whole community/kickstarter thing didn't work out for them, but they've not given up, and they raised the money privately. Someone's obviously risking a lot with this venture, so let's not give them such a hard time.Frankly, staying clear of this whole mess of a thread is probably the most dignified response. Yuuna
It's the 'negative' comments that have kept this thread going. I wonder if it will rain on the opening day proper...
