Where can you buy real christmas trees in ED?

There is usually a firm camped outside the East Dulwich Tavern in the build up to Christmas.

We got ours from the small nursery on NXR, which was really good quality. Shame that it's shut, now.

Anyone happen to know whether their suppliers also supply any of the other local places that sell them?

There seemed to be trees sold from almost every available street corner last year, but would prefer to buy from a retailer with a more regular local presence.

This thread for me signifies the offical Xmas build up (well this and the holidays are coming Coke advert - which has already been on). I love the Xmas build up. The mulled wine was getting going in the Bishop last saturday.

Xmas tress - got mine from outside the Clockhouse last year. They screwed a cheap stand into the base and seemed to do the job nicely.

Same as HMB - Clockhouse boys - but anyone you buy from will (should - the CH firm did) offer free delivery so you don't need yr car.

I got mine from blokes at Dulwich Hamlet school last year. They deliver to your home.

If you are going anywhere near Ikea, they will have an offer on from 6 December (I think) where if you spend ?25 on one of their non-drop Christmas trees, you get a ?20 voucher back, with indefinite time limit.

OK it's not local, but seems like a very good deal if you are in that direction anyway - and have transport :)

Hey you can stock up on their gingerbread houses, mulled wine and cheap wrapping paper :))

Failing that, Grant sells them outside the Palmerston, or the EDT...I got a late one from the flower shop in the Village the year before last. It was late (I'm traditional) so for a 12 foot non drop it was ?20 delivered.

Yup, a humbug from me too.

We've given up pandering to the extortion that is London tree prices. A few years ago we bought an artificial Sale tree that looks as good as the needly ones. At a fraction of the cost.

The florist next to Barcelona on London Road (or maybe the end of Lordship lane - in the row of shops opposite the old Harvester) normally has good quality trees and other Christmas shrubbery - have been buying from him off and on for many years. Not cheap, but not extortionate. And he is there all year, not a fly-by-night Xmas tree trader, so poor quality/ service isn't in his best interests.

According to Ikea's website, it's just the Bristol branch which is excluded, so maybe best to phone and check.

ETA: Ah sorry, on more careful reading the website just says that real Christmas trees are not for sale in Bristol. Damn!

ETA: I'm still going to phone and ask though, as if Croydon is excluded from the offer I would have thought this would be mentioned on Ikea's own website, not just on the MoneySavingExpert site???

I agree with you about extortionate prices, but the trouble is artificial trees just aren't the same, however realistic they look.

I personally would rather have no tree than an artifical tree, but I can see the attraction as you can bring it out every year and just dust it down :)

Sorry Sue, but I've been dusting down my artificial tree for 23 years (like my parents did) and it looks as good as new!

Brings back a lot more memories than a real tree could ever do, especially when they are dumped outside for recycling in January.

Each to their own. I personally like bringing greenery into the house around Christmas, turn of the year and all that, and originally it would have been the Winter Solstice celebrations I think?

Doesn't have to be a tree though, I think it was the Victorians who started the tree thing? I bring in ivy from the garden.
