I don't really think its a surprise with the chefs outside in their work clothes puffing away on their cigarettes , or the chefs walking to Iceland's in their uniforms to buy food for the restaurants , or the dirty trolley transporting meat across the road from an unmarked white van .

No thanks .

Not if you just don't think about it :)

You'd never get out of bed if you worried about everything you might do which had a hygiene implication!

How many people do you know who have ever become ill through drinking out of a contaminated can?

I don't don't know exactly how these ratings change from 1 to 5. I imagine I can handle 3-5 but 1 and 2? What's the point of having hygiene ratings if we poo poo them? I saw the TV series a bit back. 1 and 2 are gross out bad. Thank you Government for setting parameters.

There have been cases of serious bouts of actual Food Poisoning in some very prestigious restaurants.

ie. 240 people became ill at the Fat Duck in Bray. (Not a hygiene problem) 3 years ago.

In 33 years living in East Dulwich, not heard of anyone actually been 'Poisoned' in any local restaurant.

Might be the odd case of , how can I put it... Dodgy Tum. (polite)

Anyone who eats any form of Street Food is unlikely to worry too much about Hygiene levels in local restaurants.

You are more likely to poison yourself at home through your own poor hygiene or through eating poorly stored food

or reheated food such as rice.

Try searching for SE22 schools hygiene ratings:

http://ratings.food.gov.uk/authority-search/en-GB/%5E/se22/desc_rating/7845/528/%5E/1/1/10

Langbourne School doesnt do well with 2 stars 21/05/13(improvement necessary )

Kingsdale School 3 stars 14/10/11 (generally satisfactory)

And I have heard of people being poisoned it just didnt make the newspaper. Local Authorities don't undertake inspections for the fun of it!

You don't work in a shop, do you? :))

ETA: As in, replacing the unhygienic rats' piss with your own prior to selling the goods .....

Zackly!

Must try to find article apparently these bloody things are scorned by those in the industry for marking spotlessly clean kitchens down for not having brand new equipment or something.

    • Ocado stopped sourcing from Waitrose a few years ago. They now source from M&S and general brands. Waitrose have their own delivery service now. I don't know how well served SE22 is by it. Ocado offers for new customers are, or certainly were, really good, particularly in the run up to Christmas. I think I got 20%/15%/10% up to a maximum of £100 spend off my first three deliveries with no delivery charge or commitment to sign up for further deliveries. There wasn't a time limit, IIRC, so it was a great way of restocking heavy store cupboard basics and stuff for the freezer.
    • Fair enough point, but does that not in a way make it even worse if they open a shop almost directly  opposite another "family" business selling exactly the same type of products?
    • As Occado source from Waitrose, and were their only deliverer at one stage, and as Waitrose do now deliver it may be they feel their reach in ED is sufficient to mean having a local outlet would not gain them sufficient additional sales to be cost effective. The movement to delivery rather than physical shopping during Covid has I believe substantially changed the grocery economics. So it may be that the High Street dynamic for physical shops has now changed.
    • ..... thinking about the discussion about Chango.  Their "About us" blurb on the website says started by one Argentina guy.  So if one person has a successful business and goes on to open a number of shops when do they go from a supported successful "family" business to a less liked "chain"?
