I think it works fairly well to avoid the bad stretch of Lyndhurst way by turning up into Lyndhurst Grove and then take a right onto Vestry road to either rejoin peckham road of cut through to Southampton road. It is basically up and down a hill though - but safer turning and a road with even surface which just about makes up for the extra effort needed...

If heading towards Camberwell, cut up through Warwick Gdns rather than Lyndhurst Way. It's nice to see the changing seasons and greenery first thing.

And you can keep to the back streets until Camberwell Grove taking you down to the Green and avoiding major traffic.

Yes it is like a tramline. Really noticed it today while going down to Peckham rd. The other way to avoid Lyndhurst way is to break the law and cycle down the one way sections of Bellenden rd., which I am loathe to do, despite the excellent road surface.

Looks like they have started doing some re-surfacing on St Norbert Rd, Yippee!

hopefully they will do the entire length of it down to Brockley station.

I spotted heavy machinery and 'no parking' cones on Lyndhurst Way today. Could it be the March unused budget is going to be applied there? Unfortunately only half the road seemed to be designated. Why do they always leave unresurfaced bits when they improve a road eg Southampton Way, Peckham Rye.

Why do they open up a road, fill it in and days later another contractor digs it all up again to do something else.

Piss up in a brewery comes to mind.

Well, I was trying not to be too sceptical, was hoping they'd resurface the whole of Lyndhurst way and were just doing it in bits, but I wrote to the council and got the following response:

"Thank you for your enquiry regarding Lyndhurst way carriageway resurfacing road works. However Lyndhurst way will be resurfaced in two sections namely: from its junction with Chadwick Road to Holy grove Road and Lyndhurst way junction with Lyndhurst Grove to Lyndhurst way junction with High shore Road."

I've asked if there are any plans to resurface the whole thing. It's better than it was now, but still really bad at the top by the school.

    • Just a quick post to say that my restaurant reviews column is now one year old. There are 45 reviews here* - mostly of local places (some sadly now defunct, others thriving). There are a couple of recipes from a period when I couldn't afford to eat out, a couple of moans about my health when I couldn't eat out on doctor's orders and a couple of reviews beyond our manor. But the main thing is that it is a free, useful guide to local dining and, I hope, an entertaining read. You can, of course, pay to subscribe or follow for free to get the reviews directly into your inbox as I don't want to spam EDF with every review (doctor says I'm not allowed spam anyway). The pictures below come from my two most popular reviews - Persepolis (new SE22 spin-off opening soon) and Norbert's, a great addition to East Dulwich. Please have a read and please consider subscribing. Did I mention you can subscribe for free?   https://eatsdulwich.substack.com/  *It would have been 46 but one review didn't run because the meal was so disappointing. I try not to be negative. To paraphrase Boyzone (or is it Westlife?) I said it best by saying nothing at all.
    • I'd like to recommend Andy - came out very last minute to help us with a rental property that was having plumbing issues. We couldn't source the problem but Andy was able to find it / fix it easily & took the stress out of the problem. We have booked him again to put in a new bath for us now too as we were so happy with this work.    Lovely fella - thoroughly recommend using! Andy's number is 07983 688 451
