Is this the sign that the gentrification of ED is finally complete ?

He's busy, as he's just opened a cat acupuncture centre.

Cats are returned to their owners with hot pokers sticking out of their paws.

Next you'll be telling us there's no Father Christmas!..

Scientist refutes claim that letting your cat sleep in a magnetic bed has side effects...

I'd place good money to suggest the hot poker would not sticking out of their paws, but more likely sticking out of somewhere else.

DM I remember some great posts from you back in the day. How time has flown! Are you satisfied with the level of gentrification that's taken place locally?

JL I have taken advantage of this freebie and I can tell you now I was more concerned with the idea of pushing a trolley around filled with goods whilst juggling a hot drink than I was about the standard of people shopping in store.

Louisa.

Louisa darling, I will not admit to doing my own supermarket shopping on a public forum, otherwise how am I to showcase my staff? The next thing you know I would be expected to collect my own children from school and blow dry my own hair... Actually, I may rethink staff access to my credit cards for the New Year, in case they lose the run of themselves, this last year has been a complete shocker (dabs tear from eye).

I feel that Waitrose should provide cup holders on their trolleys, don't you? The aupair is costing me a fortune in fresh coffee and if she can get her hit for free at the super marche, all the better I say! When will this damn recession ever end (pokes aupair on the head with keys from Audi Q7).

Sweet North Londoner! I have been spending quite a lot if time reflecting over the last year, re-evaluating my relationships. Where is a girl to look for role models? The behaviour of Paul Hollywood has totally destroyed the joy if bread baking for me (OK, vicariously via my house keeper) - what a cad (blows nose loudly), that man deserves a close encounter with my Kitchen Aid dough hook! And now that the scales have fallen from my eyes and I have finally seen Nigella in her true light - KFC? OHMYGOD! I have been so naive (wails and shakes fist at sky)!

When I think of the money I have spent on Manuka honey, kaffir lime leaves and speciality Italian 00 flour...

No doubt Jah Lush will uncover some connection between Iceland's chicken Tikka lasagne and Kate Middleton and then I shall require a month in The Priory!

If feel so at home on Lordship lane now, I am quite simply, no longer that unusual. Am I? 😱

    • I sometimes don't feel as comfortable as I did but it's not because I'm older, it's because I'm sober. Staggering home when I was younger I always felt I like a had a cloak of invisibility around me. And a magic compass - not even sure how I found my way home some nights.
    • I'm London born and bred and have always considered myself streetwise having grown up in Notting hill (pre getrification) and I lived on the border of Harlesden (kensal green) in the 90's  when it was pretty sketchy round there .and I spent much of the 80's and early 90's in downtown New York.. I would walk everywhere at all hours of the day and night and never felt particularly uneasy largely because I was always mindful of my surroundings and walked with 'purpose'. I don't know wether its because I'm now so much older but I don't feel as comfortable as I used to walking round London. Today I was in the West end and I made sure to carry my bag on the opposite arm to that facing the kerb and felt uneasy when I saw people wizzing around on limebikes or scooters close to the kerb..I never got my phone out at all...I never used to feel like this but just recently I've had friends witness phone and bag snatching in central london in broad daylight..apparently it happened so fast in both instances there was nothing anyone could do to help..One phone snatching was during the tube strike 7.30am two guys on bikes grabbed a mans phone..My friend took the victim to a nearby hotel to sit down and recover the hotel said due to the tube strike they had witnessed many duo's of youth out very early on bikes aware that there were more pedestrians around at that time with their phones out trying for Ubers or looking at directions. I would'nt say I feel 'unsafe' I just feel more aware of being a possible target for crime than formerly. I don't know if this is due to being older or due to reading the press.
    • The fact everyone has had a CCTV camera in their pockets for the last 15+ years has done a huge amount to prevent and mitigate random drunken violence.  Thugs can't get away with what they used to anymore.
