I used to have to get the train from ED to Gatwick to get to work every day. Quickest way used to be train from ED to Tulse Hill and then a FCC from Tulse Hill to Gatwick (only 2 stops and 30 mins!) Unfortunately, First Crapital Disconnect became really really unreliable towards end of last year... If only ED went directly to East Croydon again. It still escapes me why anyone would route through to terminate at West Croydon ?!?!

Is EDW to LB to Gatwick all via train the best combination of fast and economical?

It sounds like the cheapest option is taking the 196 bus to East Croydon, and then catching a train to Gatwick. The fastest option is probably Peckam Rye train to Victoria's Gatwick Express, but the Gatwick Express ticket is a bit pricey.

I have both a student oyster card and a student rail card, btw.

depending on the peak , my mum got a single from gatwick to forrest hill, 9 pound max i think it was, but she had to change a clapham or croydon. so in reverse should be the same route.

time it takes you to get to victoria you could be there before the gatwick express ,,,maybe.

i live close to the east dulwich and peckham rye rail stations, so unfortunately forrest hill is not a good option for me.

There are trains from Victoria which get to Gatwick within 5 minutes of the Gatwick Express at half the price. Just look for the ones that only stop at Clapham, East Croydon and then Gatwick. There's definitely one at 32 minutes past the hour - think it's the Southampton train.

But yes, I'd go Forest Hill and East Croydon too.

    • Highly recommend Greg from Raven Plumbing & Heating, who I found through this forum. He was immediately responsive, great communication and super speedy arrival time, even on a bank holiday! He diagnosed and fixed a leak in record time. Extremely friendly and professional, made me feel much better about a stressful situation - will definitely work with him again!
    • I think the thread title is a bit overdramatic there’s thousands of CICs in the UK.  Hopefully, I don’t sound naive when I say that sometimes this sort of set up is a way to reach hard to reach people without the bureaucracy of more formal organisations.
    • https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/14349080 Doesn't add much. No accounts. Possibly genuine. Possibly the hard-done-to veterans are themselves
    • We have a place and a date for the first (and hopefully not the last) reborn ED Forum drinks! We have booked tables at The Palmerston on Wednesday 11 June at 7pm, in the area by the window on the left as you come in. It would be very helpful to us (and particularly the pub) if you could PM us in good time if you intend to come, so that we are not reserving tables which won't be used. We will provide labels and pens  for those who would like to use them - definitely not compulsory! Any comments or queries, please post them here or PM me!
