Found myself wanting for the first time on Sunday when it came to local pubs. I was with a mate with some heavy(ish) stuff to talk about and wanted a quiet pint. I wanted a thick ash stained carpet to soften the sharper noises. A fruit machine quietly flashing in the corner, some decent ales on tap, a fire and a welcoming vibe.

Options were almost entirely: kidfest/creche, roast fest, band fest (Patch and Ivy House both rammed) or premiership/rugby fest. So I didn't find what I was looking for. Anyone know where Dream pub for last Sunday might exist?

I feel your pain Mr Ben. It's impossible to find anywhere locally that isn't full of the Sunday lunch brigade and their offspring running riot. I'm afraid it's a bygone era that you're looking for.

If you find it let us know via PM. We don't want everybody knowing.

Another shout for the Golden Lion. They serve Sunday lunch, but it is not full of families there to eat.

Not that I've been down there for a good while.

Or a recent "discovery" is The Bricklayer's Arms on Dartmouth Road. Used to be a shithole, but seems to be under new management and there is a little room at the back like a weird living room stuck on the back of the pub. Worth a look anyway.

Peckham Liberal club....maybe not quite what you want, but has a puggy, quietish and old school working mans club seats and chairs - just the place for a serious chat. Tried to join recently but they were out of forms. Will be on that case again soon.

    • What my friend saw yesterday wasn't a drill, as has been suggested. She's a met police officer, so I think she'd know the difference. I even checked the court circular - saddo that I am - and it wasn't for a royal. Still intrigued... Sounds like the mini today was a police chase?
    • There are lots of trees, shrubs, a pond and a large area of wild grass all of it which are habitat for a range of flora and fauna. Do you mean the common- that is mostly grass, some of it laid over an old car park? However, the festival won't use that bit, they prefer to be "nestled" within the park (more aesthetically pleasing for festival goers, who like to be 'at one with nature' while they enjoy the booming bass, and great marketing for the festival owners who can also use the plentiful trees as a sound barrier- it saves them forking out to mitigate the noise.
    • That's very rude. Care to expand, rather than having a go at malumbu?  You think this solicitor with five one star reviews (and most people with complaints won't bother writing reviews) is perfectly proficient, and all the delays, non use of email communications  etc are his clients' fault?
    • Thank you for your explanation, which makes complete sense. Sadly I'm guessing that most of those who post on here, including me, are not familiar with the  holiday arrangements of the construction industry. Very sorry to have ventured an uninformed opinion 😀
