BBC Three is the most pointless waste of airtime I've ever known. They occasionally do a serious teen/social issues based documentary which is interesting, but most of the time it is simply as you say, re-runs of un-funny animated American comedy shows or a repeat of Eastenders. If it goes online it will surely continue to attract it's target audience anyway. BBC four on the other hand would be a great loss if it ever went the same way.

haha! I know what you mean. But fear not, they are safely on BBC4 at the moment.

Ha! To be fair, other media outlets have used the term "axed" as well.

twitter is unbearable at the moment, so much crap flying around. I only use it for entertainment purposes, having chats with people and learning about things that aren't related to politics, history or science because you haven't got a hope in hell there.

on topic, does this mean I won't be able to watch family guy anymore? probably a good thing. am still singing the bird song in my head.

If callers to his radio show are anything to go by, most of bakers listeners are well outside london, never mind new cross

Twitter is bigger than before so has more idiots. Why are they in your timeline

Bbc3 is being taken off air. Relegated to iplayer only it is effectively axed, so no real misreporting there either

It's not even really about twitter or idiots in your timeline strafer.

its people writing misinformed blogs that on the surface look quite good and seem 'factual' and then some nice people RTing it and so on, perpetuating crap as 'truths' or implied consensus view. one particularly sensible writer I follow is just RTing everything that is being 'live tweeted' by another person he follows. It is driving me barmy as if I wanted to f-ing follow someone live tweeting an event then I'd follow them, I don't need someone else to do it for me. If that makes sense.

and then of course there's the ones whose politics or point of view I just disagree with. idiots ;)

edit: mute button very handy, i've muted him for a couple of days. I think its healthy to read stuff that you don't always agree with too, as long as its not factually wrong.

Back on topic (my fault) BBC 3 feels like a repeat channel for Gavin & Stacey. BBC4 on the other hand is fantastic and quite frequently my first point of call on a TV night (especially on Fridays). In danger of damaging my beeb bashing cred, but I would pay the licence fee for BBC4 and Radio 6 alone - although Radio 6 veers towards a touch of the smugness.

True now RE Beeb4 but for a while it teetered with some abysmal viewing figures even at prime - sometimes under 1000 - with more than a few people questioning what the justification for it could be.

Since then, it's a good example of how money carefully spent in the right place - with a clear overall vision and brand - can build a channel which people actively scan the programme guide for.

BBC3 could never decide what it was - and the thing it hoped it might be (comedy) was never up to scratch.

I'm with the OP. Losing BBC4 would be awful - it's precisely what a public service channel should be and doesn't chase big audiences or the next trend. The idea of BBC3 was ok but the reality most of the time was rubbish. Trying out some of this stuff online is fine, it's where we'll watch everything in the not too distant future.

    • There’s definitely something in what you say about upbringing, environment, and emotional health. It doesn’t excuse the behaviour, but it might help explain it. I do think low intelligence likely played a role here. People who aren’t taught to value life, whether human or natural, often end up reacting with hostility to the things they don’t understand or appreciate. It’s a sad reflection of both neglect and ignorance. Your suggestion of rehabilitation through something like woodland conservation or sapling planting is actually a lovely and meaningful idea. Let’s hope something good can come of their sentence, though I won’t be holding my breath. Looking forward to meeting you in person at the Forum drinks tonight, and fingers crossed Jasonlondon makes it too. His terrible neighbours really are quite the story.

At 10:30 Bogotá, 11:30 New York, 16:30 London, 17:30 Paris, 21:00 New Delhi, join the closing ceremony live from the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ceremony will feature Gustavo Petro, President of Colombia; Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories; Zane Dangor, Director General of South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation; Varsha Gandikota-Nellutla, Executive Secretary of The Hague Group; and Fillemon Wise Immanuel, Minister of Justice and Labour Relations of Namibia. The centrepiece of the ceremony will be the reading of the Joint Statement — the result of deliberation among participating governments. This statement will echo far beyond Bogotá. It marks a turning point in the global campaign to hold Israel accountable, protect the Palestinian people, and restore the rule of international law. Join us to witness this historic moment. • We had the roof on our Victorian terrace replaced in 2023 and were charged just under £12,000, which included new slates, battens, breathable membrane, leadwork, and scaffolding. The cost was mainly due to the complexity of working on an older property and ensuring everything met current building standards.
