Millhaven
Seems like the BBC DG has cottened on to the fact that 4 hours of 'Family Guy' a night and reruns of soap operas and not that funny sitcoms isn't floating our boat nor cost worthy.I for one wouldn't miss BBC3 but would be very disappointed if BBC4 were to go the same way. Louisa
BBC Three is the most pointless waste of airtime I've ever known. They occasionally do a serious teen/social issues based documentary which is interesting, but most of the time it is simply as you say, re-runs of un-funny animated American comedy shows or a repeat of Eastenders. If it goes online it will surely continue to attract it's target audience anyway. BBC four on the other hand would be a great loss if it ever went the same way.Louisa. Cassius
Also glad it's BBC3 not BBC4, however there was a suggestion that BBC2 and BBC4 should merge and be a full time serious channel, no 7.00pm start and no cookery programmes, which I did think might be a good solution. More Danny Baker please.... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/41907-bbc3-axed/#findComment-726477 Share on other sites

grace3
Danny Baker is ok if you are from New Cross but the BBC is supposed to cater for people from all of the country,3&4 are national channels. StraferJack
If callers to his radio show are anything to go by, most of bakers listeners are well outside london, never mind new crossTwitter is bigger than before so has more idiots. Why are they in your timelineBbc3 is being taken off air. Relegated to iplayer only it is effectively axed, so no real misreporting there either Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/41907-bbc3-axed/#findComment-726556 Share on other sites
numbers
It's not even really about twitter or idiots in your timeline strafer.its people writing misinformed blogs that on the surface look quite good and seem 'factual' and then some nice people RTing it and so on, perpetuating crap as 'truths' or implied consensus view. one particularly sensible writer I follow is just RTing everything that is being 'live tweeted' by another person he follows. It is driving me barmy as if I wanted to f-ing follow someone live tweeting an event then I'd follow them, I don't need someone else to do it for me. If that makes sense.and then of course there's the ones whose politics or point of view I just disagree with. idiots ;)edit: mute button very handy, i've muted him for a couple of days. I think its healthy to read stuff that you don't always agree with too, as long as its not factually wrong. ????
Back on topic (my fault) BBC 3 feels like a repeat channel for Gavin & Stacey. BBC4 on the other hand is fantastic and quite frequently my first point of call on a TV night (especially on Fridays). In danger of damaging my beeb bashing cred, but I would pay the licence fee for BBC4 and Radio 6 alone - although Radio 6 veers towards a touch of the smugness. *Bob*
True now RE Beeb4 but for a while it teetered with some abysmal viewing figures even at prime - sometimes under 1000 - with more than a few people questioning what the justification for it could be. Since then, it's a good example of how money carefully spent in the right place - with a clear overall vision and brand - can build a channel which people actively scan the programme guide for. BBC3 could never decide what it was - and the thing it hoped it might be (comedy) was never up to scratch. edcam
I'm with the OP. Losing BBC4 would be awful - it's precisely what a public service channel should be and doesn't chase big audiences or the next trend. The idea of BBC3 was ok but the reality most of the time was rubbish. Trying out some of this stuff online is fine, it's where we'll watch everything in the not too distant future.
