"Wonderful non-conformists"? - when you read do you move your lips?

Just for the record, I highly sympathise with anyone who has had abuse from this guy, especially if it was kids or a lady walking alone after dark or whatever. I don't doubt at all what people have said. I just find it difficult to understand the hateful bile some people have spouted about someone who is clearly not well. Yes you could argue that they should be gettins treatment somewhere, but your venom should be aimed at a system, not the results of it.

If you get trapped in a lift with a man who spends the hour shouting "I'M A TOMATO.. I'M A TOMATO.." whilst rolling alternate trouser legs up and down and saluting - then in all probability most people would go home and tell their other half that they got stuck in a lift with a 'nutter'. Whatever.

But it would be in poor taste to devote a snigger-thon thread to him on a public website. Especially if he lived on your street.

The "system" IS working... However the authorities do not have a crystal ball. I posted Whistling Man's ASBO terms on this forum a couple of days ago. If you see him being threatening, drunk, noisy... call the council or the safer neighbourhood team. They will take the appropriate measures.

I cannot understand the bleeding heart liberal leanings of some people on here, who would rather protect some undeserving low life troublesome stalker who has put absolutely nothing into the society which they live, other than costs of housing feeding, and defending when they eventually get to court for their anti-social behaviour.

My sympathy lies with Jimmytwotimes when he was desperate there was no support from the council where as if he had been like the intimidating nutter he would have got housed no question.

Asset and Annaj and Chav defended this creep and all credit to them for their humanity, but he has not lived as their close neighbour, and they have not been stalked to their home, or sat next to him on the bus and been intimidated by the obnoxious lout like many have.

As resources are finite I would rather Jimmytwotimes was served positively by the welfare state, than the antisocial asbo collectors who in my mind should be put to work helping in the community rather than fragmenting it by their disgraceful carryings on. The chances are the ones who have just left Whateley rd have probably been re-housed on several occasions and have received more than their fair share of commitment from the council.

In my opinion once they have been housed and then they lose it for their misbehaviour, that house should be given to the Jimmytwotimes variety of individual who needs a helping hand, and the once in his life time need is taken care of. Otherwise the system seems to encourage outrageous behaviour.

Sorry if I come over as a "total tool" Keef which incidentally made me laugh out loud, and its making me chuckle as I write we shall just have to agree to differ.

I am all for the welfare state where deserving cases are looked after, but not for the individuals who make a career of being anti-social.

Yes I agree Keef, I'm not defending him or his actions particularly, just feeling uncomfortable with people wishing him a violent death and other unpleasant things.

Exactly.

My post was not intended to belittle anyone's suffering or defend antisocial behaviour, only to point out that I found the some of the attitudes on this thread deeply unpleasant.

If there were stocks on Goose Green (like I have suggested on previous posts) they would all be put there for a few days and the community could hit back in a socially approved way.

It could stimulate new local businesses, rotten egg and tomato suppliers for example would clean up.

It would make us all feel so much better if we could issue some payback to the local miscreants.

We would all know the punishment was fitting the crime, and justice would be seen to be done.

The money raised could go to rehousing them and they would be released as soon as there was sufficient money to look after them, having of course paid out the compensation to the people who had suffered any indignities metred out by them.

We could hire Keefs band, and give Bon3yard a stall to sell his gourmet snacks, it would be a national ed holiday.

We could have a bonfire, it's always nice to see a blaze.

A win win situation, with all the visiting from out of towners spending their hard tourist currency.

I might run for mayor of ED next year, ......Boris beware.

I think you are confusing your idea of stocks with the kind that appeared in DC Thomson comics Steve T

A lot more than rotten tomatoes were thrown at people. In fact not everything got thrown.. In fact....

Actually best just forget the whole idea of stocks as pretty barbaric (much like a lot of society at that point in time)

Agree with this - like on this thread

Why is it OK to refer very specifically to someone so that everyone knows who they are as long as they are attributed a nickname, but not to refer to their real name? I'm not sure about this myself, I know perhaps you could then google them or something whilst 'The Whistler' woouldn't have quite the same results. Don't know if I'm being a bit thick and missing something here, because somehow 'naming and shaming' feels a bit wrong to me but I couldn't quite put my finger on why (other than perhaps it 'humanises' them so I feel less comfortable talking about them!).

P.S. to clear up potential confusion if people trawl through my previous posts in order to determine the integrity of my character before deciding how to respond to my post, my other half nicked my profile when posting before (the thought of me on a bicycle in central London is truly terrifying).

    • Just a quick post to say that my restaurant reviews column is now one year old. There are 45 reviews here* - mostly of local places (some sadly now defunct, others thriving). There are a couple of recipes from a period when I couldn't afford to eat out, a couple of moans about my health when I couldn't eat out on doctor's orders and a couple of reviews beyond our manor. But the main thing is that it is a free, useful guide to local dining and, I hope, an entertaining read. You can, of course, pay to subscribe or follow for free to get the reviews directly into your inbox as I don't want to spam EDF with every review (doctor says I'm not allowed spam anyway). The pictures below come from my two most popular reviews - Persepolis (new SE22 spin-off opening soon) and Norbert's, a great addition to East Dulwich. Please have a read and please consider subscribing. Did I mention you can subscribe for free?   https://eatsdulwich.substack.com/  *It would have been 46 but one review didn't run because the meal was so disappointing. I try not to be negative. To paraphrase Boyzone (or is it Westlife?) I said it best by saying nothing at all.
    • I'd like to recommend Andy - came out very last minute to help us with a rental property that was having plumbing issues. We couldn't source the problem but Andy was able to find it / fix it easily & took the stress out of the problem. We have booked him again to put in a new bath for us now too as we were so happy with this work.    Lovely fella - thoroughly recommend using! Andy's number is 07983 688 451
