Because I know most of them. Am married to one of them who has been dressing and acting the way he is since he was growing up in Streatham and regularly getting beaten up for it as a teenager. Either or, who gives a shit. Not your look out. Mean spirited dismissive bullshit like this really pisses me off, especially as its about Hamlet fans who actually get off their arse and go to away matches and are singing out of passion for the team. If you pulled your head out of yours, maybe go and say hello as you might like them.

But Otta people such as Brain-opera's husband have not Co-opted the club. They've embraced it, its history and its old fans. That's what's been truly heartwarming about the Hamlet's resurgence: the unity and the joy in supporting the club. It is a lot stronger than it was when I first started going seven years ago. And in troubling times this is very necessary.

If you were there yesterday with 1400 others you could easily avoid the noisy madness behind the goals. The Toilets opposite stand is fairly sedate and the main stand positively respectful.

The Hamlet is for everyone and all life is there. That's why we should all love it.

I've come over wrong here. what's happening is wicked. But there are people like the guy last week who was asking us where they were in the league and how many games they had left, who by the end of it was screaming like he was a life long fan.

I know I'm being a grumpy bastard, but it annoyed me.

What's wrong with that?

So he doesn't know much about the club. He paid his money, found out a few facts and then got behind the team.

Should he study the history hard before singing and screaming?

It's attitudes like that that would stop new people wanting to come

" I know I'm being a grumpy bastard, but it annoyed me."

Just having some fun with the newly signed up that's all. I couldn't really care less, made a comment and laugh at the reaction, it's troll Sunday for me.

Stuck in the 90s. I know that feeling.

As for the 'hipsters'... I kind of think that anyone who follows a fashion uniform is a bit daft, but they're basically harmless and most of them will probably look back at photos of themselves in a few years time and have a good laugh at their drainpipe jeans, pink DMs, etc.

I don't really watch football and you'll certainly never find me at a Hamlet game, but surely the more people going through the gates the better for the club. Unless they're being 'ironic' (i.e. taking the piss)

So - are the flat cap wearers a separate species?

Or are the caps the hipsters' Winter plumage, now moulted for the Summer?

Or are flat caps too now irretrievably uncool and all gone to charity shops?

My clothes are on-trend about once every fifteen years :))

A quick google search of "hipster" shows they've been around a lot longer than I'd realised. I am realising just how little I know about the world I live in.

I can't find a good definition of what a Hipster is though (but I don't think you have to be rich and slumming it as a prerequisite).

when I was at sixth form (79 - 81) Hipsters were something else entirely - they were soul boys I suppose, open necked shirts, jeans and spotlessly clean trainers - they used to listen to Disco and Earth Wind & Fire. They had their side of the College common room and we had ours, we'd have a cassette machine with a battered tape of Abbey Road, (or at least I did)

    • This week's edition of The Briefing Room I found really useful and impressively informative on the training aspect.  David Aaronovitch has come a long way since his University Challenge day. 😉  It's available to hear online or download as mp3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7wv In a few days time resident doctors -who used to be known as junior doctors - were meant to be going on strike. This would be the 14th strike by the doctors’ union since March 2023. The ostensible reason was pay but now the dispute may be over without more increases to salary levels. The Government has instead made an offer to do something about the other big issue for early career doctors - working conditions and specialist training places. David Aaronovitch and guests discuss what's going on and ask what the problem is with the way we in Britain train our doctors? Guests: Hugh Pym, BBC Health Editor Sir Andrew Goddard, Consultant Gastroenterologist Professor Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mark Dayan, Policy Analyst, Nuffield Trust. Presenter: David Aaronovitch Producers: Caroline Bayley, Kirsteen Knight, Cordelia Hemming Production Co-ordinator: Maria Ogundele Sound Engineers: Michael Regaard, Gareth Jones Editor: Richard Vadon
    • That was one that the BBC seem to have lost track of.  But they do still have quite a few. These are some in their 60s archive. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0028zp6
