Which is the worst: 'Panorama' or 'Dispatches'?

Recommended Posts

I would have gone with Panorama (Panorama Lite) as it should be called these days) every time, but Dispatches really lowered the bar last night with their hard-hitting investigation into cutting your energy bills.

Having scoured the land to find the only family left in Britain yet to use uSwitch or work-out what the 'E' next to their meter reading was for, it was them revealed that by using their electrical appliances for half the time they could cut their electricity bills by nearly half.

All delivered with a totally OTT 'Remembrance Sunday' style narration and ominous, brooding music.

Shite.

I went looking for my U-Switch last night, wasn't in the meter cupboard or anywhere to be seen, can anyone help me understand what this switch does... the only switch I did find was on the front of the consumer unit, which saves me a packet everytime I turn it off ... >:D<

Maybe this here U-switch is a bit like the fabled G-Spot ? (couldn't find that in the meter cupboard either...)

I'm afraid not, Citzen.. I was merely unfortunate enough to catch a segment of it whilst brewing the dinner.

Which is a shame, as I'm dying to now how it ended (though I think it would probably be something along the lines of 'change your supplier regularly and try not to waste energy')

*Booo-oob*, I taped that, now you've gone and spoilt the ending.

I'd have to go with Dispatches, despite the fact that Panorama's current custodians have tragically betrayed what were once some decent broadcasting values. You'd be better off reading the Mail or the Express or even the Daily Star to be kept informed. At least we all know the agenda they have and they don't hide behind the ethos of "public service broadcasting".

A bit of a serious take, apologies, especially compared to the G spot discussion, which btw I can also confirm, but having worked in the media team of a company that was on the end of a Dispatches fantasy, I have experienced how they write the headline first and then get the facts to fit around it, employing some fairly low journalistic methods in the process.

Right, I'm off to catch Newsround on Iplayer, the only useful news programme there is!

Dispatches was good in the early days, but I couldn't watch this episode for more than a few minutes, it was so tame.

What has happened to that excellent programme 'Rough Justice', I wonder if it has been junked, for showing up a few of the glaring inadequacies of the judicial system.

That brings me to question is 3G Triple the Pleasure ? And do we all need to go to "G-Plan" to find it or finally if you do find it does that put your partner and you in G-eosynchronous Orbit ?

GEE these could go on, and maybe Panorama needs to do a documentry on it

    • You'd need to get a proper quote (or three) for instance removing a cast iron bath is a very different job from removing an acrylic one. Again what pipe work will be being joined into - matching old imperial pipes with modern metric ones is different from like to like, as is dealing with a copper or an iron distribution system. The amount (area) of retiling required is an issue, as will be the state of the wall behind the tiles. It may of course all be very plain sailing, or not. Have a first look at plumber recommendations on the relevant pages on this site. If it's all easy then 3 days work may be sufficient. But it could be a week if there are snags.
    • Hi. Can anyone suggest a plumber for the job below? Replace bath tub with a shower enclosure, putting pipes to showerhead behind wall, re-titling damaged/removed tiles Also any idea of the costs involved for the labour as we will buy the items required?
    • Aria came round to fix my tub drain when I'd messed up the seal. Came within hours, fixed the tub, and ran a bath to make sure it was okay. Here's where the fun starts. While he was over, I asked him questions about the rest of the plumbing round the house. I had just moved into a Victorian home that was previously being rented. Unsurprisingly, we found another leak in the tub and a drip in the kitchen tap.  He came back the next day to put a better pipe in my bathtub and replace the kitchen sink. Painstakingly figured out how to replace the hard-to-access kitchen sink without cutting through the wood panel with the help of his builder friend, Mark. Answered all my questions and clearly knew his stuff. All this right before Christmas holidays!
