Does East Dulwich have a gay club/society/community?

I've met plenty of gay people in ED in my 8 years here, and several frequent this very forum

However, anytime I've seen a suggested gathering advised, response has usually been pretty poor (ie no bugger shows up)

A gay specific venue has also been mooted but I reckon it would be a non-stater commercially plus most of the bars in the area are diverse and tolerant

If I had to pick the most gay-friendly bar it would probably be the Rye hotel

I grew up off Goose Green but moved away and have been back a littl while, there was when I was younger a 'gay bar' on East Dulwich Grove. It was more of a wine bar really!! LOL

I did once meet a guy in the ED but it would be nice to have a place or a good night somewhere.

My friends and I all love straight pubs but Dulwich could do with at least a gay night.

An overlooked pun, or unfortunate choice of words?

Either way :)-D :))

I often see rather well dressed groups of gay blokes on a night out in ED, I suppose our gay community is so much a part of the fabric of ED maybe they haven't felt the need for a club/society thing? Would be nice to see something, perhaps offering advice or support or something I think. There's quite a few gay men on our street and its all the nicer for them!

Well if anyones does fancy trying to arrange a 'gathering' (and I suppose by posting this I could be putting my name in the frame), it would be good to meet with like-minded (how delicately phrased) folk! I'm sure that most of the pubs in ED would be happy to entertain us, but as I help out in a pub in Camberwell, I can at least guarantee us a warm welcome for our initial happening:) If anyone is interested, please feel free to drop me a line and let's see if we can put SE22 'in the pink'.

There are loads of gay events in Camberwell. Some of the regular ones are every Wednesday at The Cambria (alternating comedy and cabaret), naturist swimming for gay men every Friday, Club Wotever's queer night at the Sun and Doves every Saturday, Pink Screen Sundays free gay films at the Castle every Sunday at 5pm, and a gay book group on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:30, also at The Castle. The Gay Camberwell website lists details, including film listings.

See - this is what happens when I go below radar for months on end. I slumber back to my sett and all the gays come out of the woodwork. Well sorry for my hibernation folks (how many more puns can I get into one thread?).

MikeSE22 and I tried once in vain to organise gay drinks. There was me and him and 1 x lesbian and 1 x gay gent no gay frolics make. Sigh.

So I know about Strawbs' drinkathon at the Rye. Any other titillating social activities for the queers to do in/around the postcode?

Ah yes - the friend auditions. I am thinking of holding them again this Summer. I am not at all satisfied with all of my present posse. One person did in fact make the grade - very nice chap. Alas he is out-of-postcode AND not on the forum making him a most undesireable sort.

So what have I missed? Louisa being nice to people yet? any more gay-bashing?

1) Not much, we've all gone to hell in a handcart

2) Don't be silly

3) Actually, the current hot trend is bashing the forum in general, not excluding but not specifically highlighting its gay members. See 1)

    • I had certainly heard that Helen Hayes was planning to stand down from being an MP - although I don't think I've seen that confirmed anywhere that I recall. If so, that is a shame, she was generally very competent and she knew the area well. A very good constituency MP and  had performed reasonably creditably in a minor Front Bench role. A loss to Parliamentary politics, in my view, if she is standing down.
    • We've just bought a previously tenanted flat which has come with a large amount of cutlery and cooking utensils which we'd be happy to give away.
    • Sadly this means for those of us who live within this ward the brilliant Helen Hayes will no longer represent us (that is if she's standing again). The Labour candidate for Lewisham West and East Dulwich is Ellie Reeves who has been MP for West Lewisham and Penge before the redrawing of boundaries.  She is sister to Rachel Reeves.
    • Highly recommend Kam Thompson (of Bascoe & Reid) for all your painting and decorating needs.  We've had him back many times and he has now painted our whole house to a fantastic standard. He is also great to have around. His number is 07949507412
