I thought we were talking about "career" women. If anyone has managed to find a "career" that involves working just 9-5 on a regular basis they are doing damn well. I often work 9 hour days, and have been known to be still in the office at gone midnight. I wish I could work less, but in a climate where redundancies could be round the corner, being the one to say I am not working late when the rest of the team are doesn't seem like a great career move.

Frankly I quite like the fact that East Dulwich is relatively family orientated - means when I get home from work dead beat it's not so noisy that I can't get to sleep! And at least with people around in the area during the day I somehow feel my home is a little safer - less likely to come home to a burgled flat if people are going to get seen breaking in.

There are all kinds of women living in East Dulwich. ALL kinds - from mothers taking a breather in a coffee shop for some sanity to career women to artists to lesbians. And I like it for that. And incidentally why the hell shouldn't a mother go to a coffee shop? Should she stop interacting with her friends socially because she has a child? I don't have children, but I'm well into my 30s so do have a bit of maturity.

To suggest the only women in East Dulwich are mothers in coffee shops without careers is a little bit...young?

Oh Angela7-11 sweetie, why don't you just try to drop a couple of dress sizes, get yourself a GHD hair straightener, your teeth whitened, and perhaps have a couple of sessions with the personal shopper at Fenwick (a life coach might help too!). Maybe even you can get yourself a boyfriend and discover the joys of married love. Babies are where it is at lovely girl, don't fight that feeling.

A girl can never, ever, have enough money you know. Get yourself a lovely man and settle down! With the two of your working, you can be doubly wealthy. You know you want to.

dulwichmum, i'd rather die slowly which i could do by boring myself to death reading your website.

' decided to throw caution to the wind and caught the number 3 bus where I sat upstairs in the front row and experienced all of the exhilaration and thrills of a trip on a roller coaster ? what a hoot'

i can't imagine anything worse than becoming you. thank god, i'm not gonna move to ed. don't bother responding. i am too busy to read any more tosh.

Actually (Damn, I hate people who start sentences with AKshully), I heard ED was the Lesbian capital of London.

Indeed. I know a couple of lezzaroos(one is Australian) who got married recently in Amsterdam(they said) and are specifically moving to ED as many of their Lesbian friends have already taken up residence in recent years as they like the feel and vibe of the area.

14 minutes to reply to DM's post, and "too busy to read any more of this tosh"? Bless you.

Come on, Angie, make the call. Sit on your hands and treat my post with the silent contempt it deserves, or send me one of your withering put-downs. Can't wait to find out which you go for.

Not sure if angela was a troll or not. Agree that the original title to the thread wasn't exactly going to make her a friend of the mums, but still have to say I read threads like this, and can't help but get a bit annoyed at the reactions of some mums and dads.

"And to disparage mothers who "lounge around" in such shows a terrible lack of respect for those who are doing the toughest (and most important) job in the world."

"I don't think you'd be very welcome with comments like that - move to Catford instead!"

Really grates just as much as the opposite side.

I know where you're coming from, but Angela's post was deeply patronising, and smacked of a certain, how shall we say, immaturity, you can hardly blame mum's for getting riled?

She could have just said "whoops, that came out a bit wrong" but went on the attack instead, which did come across as a tad trollsome. Though frankly the whole exchange was hilarious.

I was asking a genuine question earlier mind, I really would like to know where Angela's chosen...any word yet Angela?

You don't think so, Keef?

I've moved between a few areas of London and obviously investigated each one a little before doing so.

None of my investigations, however, involved posting a thread on the local gossipvine entitled "I'm thinking of moving to your area but I'm put off by the fact that it seems to be full of complete knobs". Posted twice, actually - in two different sections.

Then sitting back to enjoy the indignant flames for a while and finishing with "I've decided not to move here now, on account of it being full of complete knobs".

Angela the Troll has tripped tropped off elsewhere. She didn't win any friends and she didn't influence anyone. That's rather sad when you think about it.

It would make for a very dull forum if we all sat round agreeing with each other though huh?

    • A bit of a long shot but I'm on the lookout for a portable pop-up counter or podium.   The kind you often see on a high street, used by charities or utility companies to advertise their wares.   I've included a photo to give you the idea. I'm a peckham-based artist and am looking for one for a free (and non-profit) community art project.  It can be in any workable condition and can already have signage on it as we will remove and redecorate ourselves.    Thanks in advance, Linzie
    • No I absolutely did not - that much is clear. Have you read the latest stories about Unite, Len and the hotel in Birmingham? The UK electorate were smart enough to reject a far-left party in 2019, let's hope they are smart enough to reject a far-right party at the next election too. If not we are all doomed.
    • I would also like to add my recommendation for James.  I had taken four names of electricians from the forum - in the order I had read the reviews.  First three no response - even days later. I phoned James this morning. He answered, gave me a time, stuck to it, messaged again 15 mins before arrival.  He fixed my problem on the spot.  Sensible charge out fee. Perfect service.
    • Most recent polls for the next election suggest it will be a hung parliament, with Reform the largest party by a fair margin. But that is predicated on Reform finding around 300 candidates who are actually electable. Given the number of Reform council candidates who have had to drop out prior to or after the local elections, does that seem likely? Social media is pretty unforgiving when it comes to finding skeletons in cupboards; a retweet or a like seems enough to scupper political ambitions. A few may defect from other parties, but do you think the electorate would really vote for so many brand new MPs from a newish party?  I'm not so sure.
