Last Thursday (6th Nov), my Gas Boiler broke down. So I made an emergency claim on my Homeserve nPower Gas Boiler breakdown cover.

3 days later, last Sunday, an nPower engineer turned up and identified the fault as a broken valve.

3 days after that, yesterday 13 Nov, they came to fix it but had ordered the wrong valve.

Today, I've been told they'll be fixing it with correct valve on Monday morning.

By Monday 12 days will have passed since it broke down.

Don't even get me started on British Gas' Homecare 200 "insurance". I've been waiting since 11th October when the part was supposedly first ordered......

At least I know somewhere else not to go when/if they finally fix this and I terminate our relationship.

So thanks!

Anyone got any decent ones?

I've just spent 3 afternoons, 2 mornings and one full day waiting for British Gas to fix our boiler and there are still unresolved issues. The first day I waited in all day only for no one to show, and yesterday I was told to wait in all afternoon for The Dynorod guy to turn up and fix a related plumbing isssue...he arrived this morning telling me that British Gas had a habit of making rash promises without actually informing them. All involved have been thoroughly professional and very pleasant, but dont make the mistake of thinking your gonna get your problem resolved in a hurry....in fact you may as well take a fortnight off work. Me? I've got another afternoon in on Monday waiting for The Gas Man to fix the problem he created when fixing the original fault. Rubbish. (6)
Just had a call from the nPower muppets that my appointment has been cancelled for today - after I have waited all day for them to come and fix my heating. Apparently the spare part has not yet arrived. They are now scheduled to visit me first thing tomorrow (assuming the spare part has arrived).
A British Gas engineer once told me that if you say that you have an infant or an elderly person in the house then they have to come more or less immediately. This is when I did have the BG cover. Don't know if it applies to all the other cover providers. As far as I know the others, including Thames Water, subcontract out to 'local' plumbing and heating companies.

Sometimes better to take out a general emergency cover with your house insurance

Halifax offer this for ?50 a year - immediate callout 24hrs, no excess, doesn't affect any no claims and repairs up to ?500 a time. We've only used it once for a lighting issue - but will cover boilers, water, etc

Finally had my Gas Boiler fixed yesterday with a newly installed Valve and Circuit board - it took the guy 4 hours to fix it after he phoned the manufacturer Vaillant a few times. Even managed to get another nPower engineer sent out today to come and balance all the radiators after I told them the job had not been completed. I thought it was the least they could do after waiting 2 weeks with my hands in front of electric heaters.

    • Because the previous Libdem/Tory coalition council did so much better? ....Oh wait. Selling off the Heygate at a bargain price and reducing the number of council homes it replaced? Being in opposition is so much easier isn't it James.  The point on allowances etc is a valid one, and that is about finding the right balance between the responsibility of those cabinet roles and the role of service that should underpin all political aspirations in an ideal world. Holding down a full time job, while having to attend meetings and then deal with case work on top, is a huge ask imo. People in key roles need to have the time needed to do those roles effectively, so some renumeration makes sense. It's just a question of where the balance should be. McAsh has walked away from that, so his convictions are doing more talking than careerism arguably.  Worth pointing out that most MPs started out as party/ political activists/ campaigners on a local level. Different parties have different processes for selecting candidates, but everyone starts out at a low level.

    • Cleaning in East Dulwich and the surrounding areas for well over a decade, we've worked hard to always provide great cleaning and reliable cleaners. We pride ourselves on delivering a high-quality cleaning service and making sure the cleaners turn up when you need and want them to. Our growth has mainly been by recommendations on the Forum, local Facebook pages and clients recommending us to their neighbours on street WhatsApp groups. We know it can be hard to trust someone to come into your home, many times when you're not there, so we only use cleaners that we know and have been checked, trained and are happy to be supervised by us. Accidents can happen so we're fully insured to cover any and all situations that may arise. On top of cleaning we can do additional tasks such as managing washing, ironing, bed changes and oven cleans. Plus working with local partners we can arrange window cleaning and carpet cleans for you. So if you want to come home to a clean and tidy place, with the floors cleaned, surfaces dusted, cobwebs removed, dishes washed, cushions plumped, clothes folded, beds made, and the bathroom gleaming, get in touch today! • Hardly! The awning is half hanging off and it looks like it's about to collapse between the two upstairs windows. Looks awful and it's not clear there is construction "going on" there now.
