I'd just like to inform everybody that my bicycle was stolen from outside persopolis (the persian shop in Peckham) on Peckham high street on Thursday.

It was broad daylight (4:00 pm) and very busy, yet nobody saw a thing. The bike was locked up to the bike parking poles outside of Peckham job centre - where incidentally there were no less than 5 G4S security guards stood behind a pane of floor to ceiling glass not 4 meters from the bike.

There are open and busy shops and hairdressers surrounding the bike rack, so i never would have thought that it was unsafe to lock my bike there. I was using a kryptonite? cable lock, which was cut through in public within the three minutes that I had left the bike for.

Please be on the lookout for anyone trying to sell my bike, a picture is attached.

Thanks

Bad luck, don't know if this will help but my bike was stolen in Peckham last year by a dodgy scrap metal van "city scrap metal" I've seen them cruising around Deptford since and when I tried to talk to them they were aggressive and drove away. I reckon they are responsible for a fair bit of the bike thefts around this way.

aspidistra - That's a helpful comment, hopefully someone's selling a time machine in the for sale section here and he can travel back and not use a pesky cable "lock"

Thanks for the advice and comments guys.

I have since found out that the cable locks (no matter how good) can be cut through in no time with no noise at all. I will be using U locks on my new bike, and I will try to never let it out of my sight.

There has to be a way of fitting alarms to them.

    • Hi there!   We are looking into getting a side return and loft dormer. I wondered if anyone had any experience of working with Resi or GoPlans? We'd be keen for there to be an element of interesting architectural design, however can't afford a traditional architect. We wondered if Resi might have the edge over GoPlans on this due to the size of the company and the amount of architectural designers they have working for them.    We'd love to know any thoughts you had about these companies or similar!   Thanks!   Julia
    • I’d like to recommend local plumber - James at Trelco Plumbing. I’ve used them twice now, for a kitchen tap replacement and a boiler repair. Both times they were able to attend at short notice, arrived on time and we are very happy with the work they have done. James is polite, responsive and easy to deal with. • Deptford Green and Elm Green anecdotally have a more realistic and compassionate to kids differing needs. Whether that is still the case i'm not sure. Having 3 boys at Charter i would seriously consider a boys school if you have them, Charter East really aren't geared up for the different educational needs of some boys and the challenging behaviour this frustration leads to. I have heard amazing things about St Thomas the Apostle boys school.
    • Thanks everyone for the great recommendations! I wouldn't normally go for vegan restaurants, but I've been to En Root and really liked it. Fresh and tasty.  The Ritzy Cinema in Brixton also sell their food, to eat in their cafe before or after a film (I don't think they sell the whole menu that you'd find in Peckham, but there is a good choice)
