East Dulwich Picturehouse tweeted 19 minutes ago that so far 157 people have become founder members, so looks like there is still plenty of opportunity to become one of the first 1000 people to be included in the specially commissioned art installation within the new building.

Vic :)

Maybe if they didn't spend time hiring artists for this hippy nonsense, they could invest in keeping the ticket prices low. You don't see Peckham Plex doing all this stuff and look how cheap they are. I'm not bad mouthing them for the sake of it, just wish sometimes these businesses would invest in keeping prices low for cinemagoers, because that's why most of us will be using it, not to look at college grad arty nonsense.

Louisa.

The street art scene is a poor attempt to get 'down with the kids'. If the kids from the council estate were involved and helping out with the project I'd have some sympathy, but judging by the pictures they're not are they? It's a very left of centre, right on thing to do- slightly embarrassing for those of us who just want a nice place to go and watch film at affordable prices.

It's nice and a good gesture from EDPH whilst they undertake the building work. If only the folk at the "art house" as was would do the same: the hoardings around this house at the Heber/Lordship bus stop are already tagged, as I knew they would be when they went up in their sparkling whiteness a few weeks ago. If anyone has any in with this development, give them a nudge to clean up the mess and keep it cleaned up.
I sympathise with some of the reservations about ?street art?, how it?s been co-opted, sanitised and commercialised (and become arguably, just a bit naff). All that said, it?s better than advertising, or just a plain hoarding. The new cinema can only be a good thing for the area IMO. At the very least, you may feel indifferent, but I don?t get the actual anger that some posters seem to be venting. I wonder how much it really has to do with street art or the cinema at all.

    • You can get a card at the till, though, to get the discount. You don't have to carry it with you (or load it onto your phone), you can just get a different card each time. Not sure what happens if they notice 🤣
    • Yes..that may be the case but membership STARTING at £115 a month is still unafforable for many. Council gyms also have a large range of equipment and I had a  PT at Dulwich leisure centre when I was in Full Time employment who was incredible and even kept in contact during lockdown giving me a program I could do at home and checking in weekly at no charge or personal gain for herself. I dont doubt that Fit For may be a good gym (Its been in situ long enough so must be doing something right) However the cost of membership means it is affordable for the few not the many. If I could afford that kind of fee I would rather get a train to Canary Wharf and go to Virgin active where theres a pool and incredible classes and facilities
    • This sounds great 👍
    • We found a red TREK bike yesterday that had clearly been stolen and dumped. Would love to reunite it with its owner. Get in touch if you know whose it is.
