new bar application - Boho Bar, 52 Lordship Lane (Lounged)

Recommended Posts

Nearby Greetings and Somerfields, the old arcade is applying to be a late night bar. Application is to stay open until 12:30am Sunday to Thursday then 2am Friday and Saturday.

Does anyone know anything about Boho Bar or the applicant, Shenol Mentesh Ibrahim? What sort of place are we going to be getting? Spit and sawdust or Chasers? Manhattan or Croydon?

Full application details here:

A gentleman with the same first name and surname appears to run and/or be a director of the company that runs/ran the Scene Bar on the OKR.

Edited: to say that it looks like Scene may have shut down now and have been replaced by the fantastically named Xeus nightclub?

'Tis, vickster - it's long been rumoured to be opening witha license but all has been quiet for a while. A name like BoHo Bar is likely to get the attention of Inside 72 exiles but I suspect it will be of the modern, Adventure Bar type venture - albeit with beer on tap and maybe some food.

For a guess

OMG I went to Adventure bar on Saturday - I had to leave after one. MOR Rock music (Bon Jovi and Elton John* to name 2 artists) played at such a volume conversation was impossible and lots of over-excited 20 somethings. Nice Margherita but not as strong as the one I then had in Licorish.

sorry - off topic. New bar eh? Just what we need\!!

* I do like some EJ but not what Adventure bar was playing

BoHo really does sound like a strip club. I really hope not - there are enough in the city. It would fail anyway. Personally, I'd love to see an Eclipse type place on LL (it works well in Wimbledon). We could do with something a bit more upbeat and open till late.

Mr MW74 and I saw a 50's style diner/pole dancing club in Brighton last weekend. The 'dancer' was dressed in a 50's style waitress outfit. Mr MW74 wanted to go in thinking it was a normal dinner. I had to point out the rather large pole in the window to him.

Maybe we could have one of those instead?

I do like the breeders, even if their first major successes were ushered in by the demise of the pixies. Although it was inevitable that Kim Deal would find an alternative and equally successful outlet for her talents as they were often bullishly sidelined by black Francis.

I was tempted to go along the Breeders pop group line myself, Brendan, and well done for going there, and that would be usually my tack.

But, I think that Josh's post was worthy of a mention for the quality of it's special air of ill-thought silliness.

Where is breeding taking place in LL bar? Am I missing something!?

I noticed a lot of (sound) insulation piled up in the venue last night, so I'm guessing it's going in the bar/club direction, but that's a pretty loose guess.

Apparently, Adventure Bar is not charging for entry on NYE and will have a last man standing policy!

    • Post much better this Xmas.  Sue posted about whether they send Xmas cards; how good the post is,  is relevant.  Think I will continue to stay off Instagram!
    • These have reduced over the years, are "perfect" lives Round Robins being replaced by "perfect" lives Instagram posts where we see all year round how people portray their perfect lives ?    The point of this thread is that for the last few years, due to issues at the mail offices, we had delays to post over Christmas. Not really been flagged as an issue this year but I am still betting on the odd card, posted well before Christmas, arriving late January.
    • Two subjects here.  Xmas cards,  We receive and send less of them.  One reason is that the cost of postage - although interestingly not as much as I thought say compared to 10 years ago (a little more than inflation).  Fun fact when inflation was double digits in the 70s cost of postage almost doubled in one year.  Postage is not a good indication of general inflation fluctuating a fair bit.  The huge rise in international postage that for a 20g Christmas card to Europe (no longer a 20g price, now have to do up to 100g), or a cheapskate 10g card to the 'States (again have to go up to the 100g price) , both around a quid in 2015, and now has more than doubled in real terms.  Cards exchanged with the US last year were arriving in the New Year.  Funnily enough they came much quicker this year.  So all my cards abroad were by email this year. The other reason we send less cards is that it was once a good opportunity to keep in touch with news.  I still personalise many cards with a news and for some a letter, and am a bit grumpy when I get a single line back,  Or worse a round robin about their perfect lives and families.  But most of us now communicate I expect primarily by WhatApp, email, FB etc.  No need for lightweight airmail envelope and paper in one.    The other subject is the mail as a whole. Privitisation appears to have done it no favours and the opening up of competition with restrictions on competing for parcel post with the new entrants.  Clearly unless you do special delivery there is a good chance that first class will not be delivered in a day as was expected in the past.   Should we have kept a public owned service subsidised by the tax payer?  You could also question how much lead on innovation was lost following the hiving off of the national telecommunications and mail network.
    • Why have I got a feeling there was also a connection with the beehive in Brixton on that road next to the gym
