Loud bang - thunder?

Anyone have any ideas what that extraordinarily loud bang was?

Just heard something that sounded like an explosion... no lightning, no rain, sounded louder than thunder.

Neighbours came to the window too, no idea what that was :(

A walker-by told me it was lightning. I saw a flash just before loud bang. May be it is lightning and thunder. Very strange !

Lightning strike for sure... we saw the bright flash a split second before the clap of thunder. Definitely hit somewhere in ED.

definately thunder, but the loudest ive ever heard! hearing sirens now, anyone know if it's hit something?

I think somewhere has been hit I can hear half a dozen fire engines or ambulances or both.

Why does that mean something got struck? Surely it could just be the storm being above ED...?Lighting, then thunder....loud, but normal surely?

Amazing how thunder and lightning confuses people when it is very close to them. Just be grateful it did not hit your house.

Yep, just over the road . I just about jumped out of my skin. Intense explosion of light Nd sound. Loudest I've ever heard

Last time I heard a bang that was so loud, a nearby house had lost its chimney to a direct lightning strike.

Fingers crossed that nothing was too damaged this time and that all are safe.

TheCat. We have already had an exhaustive debate about the do's and don't's of reserving car parking spaces with bins. I am tempted to though, I'm itching here to know the details so frustrating.
