Me -

After a long and exhausting night shift dashed to Lordship Lane.

Saw the queue already stretching back to the bus stop.

Struggled not to cry.

Saw number 40 approaching.

Guiltily, got on number 40 and went to Sainsburys.

Bought very nice looking meat and pushed all nagging ethical and environmental concerns firmly to one side.

Took bus home again past queue and spotted person who had been at the back now only half way up.

You -

Please, don't tell the very discerning forumite coming to lunch.....

Too late I think they may well already know ....

I think everyone knows that quids - and that has never bothered me. I know if I want the organic chicken or beef I can ask for it there but I never do - but to answer Annasfields question - it's not Billy Rose produce in particular.. it's the quality and more importantly the range of most of the meat in most butchers that makes the difference

Buy your joint of choice from a supermarket and from any decent butchers. Cook the same. Taste. If you can't tell the difference in most cases then summat is wrong

Listening to London radio this morning, most parts of London are reporting similar queues outside butchers - it's not just an ED thing. Ditto Billingsgate market as well. And it's no big deal really

Caveat: if anyone is good enough to cook for me I'm hardly going to complain if they haven't the time to queue ;-)

Don't listen Anna, I have never forgiven him for the one time he ate at mine during a film night, when all but ONE thing seved up was made an/or cooked from scratch by either myself or Mrs Keef, including the bread, the humous, the tzatziki the garnish on the lamb steaks etc etc... What did Sean do... He asked "So, did you make this Piri Piri sauce yourself?

    • I can't access the article - what's the gist?  I took the markets getting jittery when she was crying at PMQs to be a sign that they trusted her. But maybe it was because they were simply worried about any form of instability.  The NIC hikes have stymied the economy, which we could all see a mile off. Will a wealth tax improve things? Does anyone here think the trickle down has any impact and that chasing out the super rich will help things? Or are we just seeing off the biggest contributors to the economy? And has the Kwasi approach ever worked anywhere else?  Economics is not my strong point at all, I'd love to know others' opinions, but it seems to be she has few options, especially as the party is so divided.
    • does either of them have a surgery? probably not over summer, but I thought they had to give the opportunity for their constituents to meet them.
    • MaryT, I’ve contacted the Dulwich Hill councillors several times in recent years, always copying them both in. I have never had an acknowledgment from Jon Hartley (not even an automated response or out-of-office) nor had any response or engagement from him regarding the issue raised.   On each occasion, only Maggie Browning responded (she uses an out-of-office if she is away). The last time, I received no response from either for 3 months, until Maggie Browning emailed me to apologise for not responding and asking if the problem had been resolved.
    • The  Kwasi effect is being considered.
