I popped along last night with S - had a chat with the owner Jamie who told me of his plans to do up the outside garden bit and introduce food - sounds like a possible future meetup venue

It is very much early days tho - all of the Ivanhoe regulars seem to be checking it out and unsure about the changes to their regular so fingers crossed. Barman was very pleasant too.

Nice one keef, a couple more and we'd have challenged the "doctors and no medics" for the title I reckon.

I've not been to the Mag quiz, but it's not CPT hard, and as they're not really used to pub quizzes yet, they were heavy on the hints and so forth.

Definitely worth another crack though.

Ahem I ended up playing tennis, it was such a nice evening, however my mates were the winning outfit, they gloated this morning. No ringers in the team, just locals

Typical questions were:

Name the three disciplines of horse eventing?

Which Bond film was the first to get a 15 certificate?

A skeleton riding a horse means what on Tarot cards?

What is Martin Offiah's nickname?

We were the East Dulwich Three-um (there was meant to be four of us) and seeing as the winning team had 40% more people I think we did ok. Can't do next week but will definitely be up for the following week.

Generally it's a decent place, it's a pub that has good beers, a non smoking section and friendly staff, I think it could do with a bit of atmosphere but that'll hopefully come in time. I believe they're having a beer festival sometime soon, if anyone knows more details let us know.

Went in there last night for the first time and tried to work out what wasn't quite right. The revamp must've driven away all the regulars, which is a shame because it hardly looks like a minimalist wine bar now, in fact they seemed to have filled it with all the usual tat form the 'furnish a pub' wholesalers. It was too brightly lit for a pub and the music (blaring out of cheap ghettoblaster thing lacked inspiration.

It was far from awful... it just didn't seem to have any personality or character. I felt a bit sorry for the landlord chap who seems to have misjudged both his old and new, potential, clientele.

Still, i'll probably go back, even if it's just for the location.

(Er, hello. I'm new btw.)

Yeah I wish it all the best if just because it means I don't _have_ to go to the Market Porter for a decent pint of ale now.

I guess these things take time and after a big inital outlay further improvements like a better sound system will come in fits and starts. It is missing a little something at the moment, but some sound groundwork and I hope it begins to find itself and some more customers. I'll certainly pop in from time to time.

Piers and I went in there on Monday. Thought it was grand. A couple great pints of ale (I think it was the last day of the festival), friendly service, and I could pass out on the comfy sofa. There's a quiz night on Thursdays that tempts me (anybody else?).
Hi Guys, this is Viv, jamie the landlord's partner. We have noted your various comments over the last few posts. We have today received a quote for a professional sound system. We were let down on a previous supplier. We have a number of events coming up which we think will interest local folks. On Wed. 23rd May we have a wine tasteing evening hosted by Bibendium, who will showcase some wines that we will hope be popular enough to join our wine list.We would also like to have a regular Mother & Toddlers morning, and we would love to hear from mothers who would like to come along.Obviously not being on Lordship Lane means that people have to make a positive effort to come here but we have a lovely space to relax in, and we hope to see some of you soon. Regards Viv.

Hi Viv - I spoke with Jamie when I popped in over the first week or so and mentioned this place - glad to see you guys pop by

If you have read some of the other threads (specifically those concerning Green & Blue) you might be worried about how harsh some of us can be but fear not - we are softies really

BTW - hoping to pop in this evening so I'll look out to say hi

    • I can't answer your question. But on them generally: it's changed hands in the last year or so, I think. I paid £35 for interior and exterior and they did a crap job. I'll go to the one on Herne Hill (or just do it myself if health allows) next time.
    • Aria came round to fix my tub drain when I'd messed up the seal. Came within hours, fixed the tub, and ran a bath to make sure it was okay. Here's where the fun starts. While he was over, I asked him questions about the rest of the plumbing round the house. I had just moved into a Victorian home that was previously being rented. Unsurprisingly, we found another leak in the tub and a drip in the kitchen tap.  He came back the next day to put a better pipe in my bathtub and replace the kitchen sink. Painstakingly figured out how to replace the hard-to-access kitchen sink without cutting through the wood panel with the help of his builder friend, Mark. Answered all my questions and clearly knew his stuff. All this right before Christmas holidays!
    • Was that the one where you put a coin in and it squirted water at you? what was the name of the one in hanway street - whatever you ordered it came on a segmented tray like you get in prison (I imagine). Prices were a steal.
