But the lambs won't get much sleep.

A shiny sixpence and a kiss on the nose for the first forumite to give me the origin of that.

It's OK, SM just brought Black Francis into the debate, so things are opening out.

I'm not an atheist, but I'm all for this campaign - anything that gets people talking about important topics like 'What's It All About Then Eh When It Really Comes Down To It, Hmm'. Brilliant. Better than the usual 'buy this new phone' tosh on the sides of buses.

Was a bit surprised by the content though. I really admire the humanist movement on the grounds that I thought it was intended to provide a moral and ethical structure and stance that's unconnected to faith, a responsibility for one another based on mutual value. But 'Now stop worrying and enjoy your life' sounded more like a slogan for the Hedonist movement. Perhaps they felt 'Now stop worrying and be a good person just for its own sake with no reward' might not sound much fun.

Geeez. A man can't even offer a girl a lollipop just before shattering her illusions these days.

Darn Daily Mail has a lot to answer for frankly.

Missus Mocker's niece is 11 and still believes in Santy(sic). I had to bite my tongue on more than one occasion I must say, I mean 11?!?!?.

I guess we didn't help last year when we got our photo taken with him in Lapland* and got him to send her a letter.

*he's 7ft tall you know!!

Cor, you're a meany under all that nice-nice, aren't you? I can just tell you were dying to accidentally let it slip and watch that little face crumple.

You better watch out, Mr. M.Piers, and I'm telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town (in about 11 and a half months) and he's going to GETCHA.

What on earth is all this "nice-nice" nonsense?

In all fairness everyone in her family is trying to persuade her mum to break the news. SHe goes to a village school with about 20 sweet but naive village types and next school year she'll be in the local secondary school with 500 odd towny roustabouts, and they'll tease her to death if they catch a whiff of it.

Still not a job for Uncle 'Don't call me nice' Piers, impertinent though it is to offer that opinion. What can I say? I always thought you were the star-bright friend of kittens and butterflies, a sweet, sensitive guy who could skip through the bluebells without leaving so much as a bent stalk. Now I realise I was foolish and naive, and you're just the kind of chap who'd spend all afternoon helping his small grandson pluck up the courage to whip out that first wobbly tooth before announcing that the Tooth Fairy is made up. The scales have fallen from my eyes and I am a sadder but wiser Moos.

On other topics- KK, are you really Santa's Baby? Did he slip a sable under the tree for thee? I think TedMax should be told. That's headline-grabbing stuff.

Horray! Radio 4's Thought for the Day is having a non-religious speaker tomorrow, ok it's a Saturday but it's a start. I've complained to R4 before about the crap that's sprouted in the morning by the religious speakers so I'm happy that they have allowed this. To those who don't know, the Thought for the Day's speakers usually say something like:

1) here's something bad that's happening at the moment (credit crunch, Israel, big accident etc)

2) here's what Jesus/Allah etc said about something that's not related to point 1) but we'll word it so it's similar

3) We have to understand that it's a challenge and that we must come together/help/love each other and/or look inside ourselves and it'll be fine, God says so.

Saying that, I do pray that something worthwhile is said tomorrow.

    • I just checked the Southwark Council website and it stated:   All responses to the consultation will be recorded and a ‘consultation findings’ report will be published once feedback has been reviewed. The review process involves collating feedback from a number of council teams and external agencies - the aim will be to publish the report as soon as possible after the consultation has closed and no later than the 31 January 2026. The report will be published on this site. The use of bold type on the date is the Council's, not mine. They are late. I wonder why?
    • I would also like to recommend Leon, who completed an EICR inspection for us. He kept us informed of his arrival time on the day and arrived promptly as promised. He was knowledgeable and clear about what work was required. I would happily recommend him and would not hesitate to use his services again.
    • It's not far from Lordship Lane if you cut down Ashbourne Grove/Melbourne Grove. Depends where you start from, I guess!
    • I doubt if it was something special - it has been full a few times I've been recently and when I have been able to get a space I've been lucky and bagged the only one available. I think there are only around 15 general spaces. Others are for staff, blue badge holders or EVs. I guess in winter people are more likely to drive, it wouldn't take much to fill all the spaces with the different things going on at the surgery/pharmacy such as blood tests, picking up prescriptions. It's possible a lot of the cars are in and out in 15 mins, i've not monitored it closely. This morning with all spaces filled when I arrived there were a couple of cars loitering in the hope of a space becoming available. I didn't want to risk it. As has been said, you can drive in and out and be caught on camera and not get a ticket but I'm not sure what the grace period is, if there is one.  Like you, I don't think a significant number of people are parking there to go shopping - it's too far from Lordship Lane as I found out this morning when i had to run from LL to Tessa Jowell! i guess the car parking spaces just can't cope with the number of legit drivers using Tessa Jowell and if that's the case not a lot can be done about it.
