Sorry I haven't been the same since I took shrapnel in Maple Road. Somebody fired a mortar at us while we were drinking skinny latte in the Blue Mountain. Standard hazard on a Sunday afternoon in Penge, I'm afraid, as Parkside has witnessed many times.

Joking aside, Parts of Penge are much like other parts of other 'nice' places

Rows of Victorian/Edwardian terraces/Semi's in similar type sub-urban streets. It's fairly stock London housing and you could as easily be in Earlsfield, Wandsworth, ED, Peckham etc

If it's shops and services your after, then Penge does have a good variety, much like Sydenham does, just not like ED. I'm not sure how often I want/need a Fat Face/Oliver Bonas/MammaBebe/ Cookwan*k shop on my doorstep, i'm quite prepared to trave for that stuff. And on the travel tip, I'm happy with Sydenham (where I live) and i'd be good in Penge, as it's pretty well serviced too

As for crime, i've seen some on my near doorstep, heard about stuff in my vacinity. Though I try to put perspective on the whole thing, as i've been in places where horrible things happend, in places like Chelsea. I've seen the fear & paranoia in people, those who live in well upholstered houses, in areas where quite horendous (on off) crimes have been committed. It happens, not sure what you can do about randomness

Good luck to anyone who's on the housing trail. Just to stay within striking distance of this great City is an achievement. I've driven through areas of Northampton a while back, so dull and lifeless, places on thier knees. I'd rather live in a vibrant and even challenging place, then a dying town in nowheresville....Anyday

I'd also rather have a Pro South East London vibe, not "Is X the new X" fook w4nk

I am sure that the those who remain in Penge are very happy that those who feel Penge has no sense of community decide to leave, a community is built by people. Clearly if living in a certain place makes you depressed you should leave and seek your fortunes elsewhere. However I see no need to run a place down. There are many people who are very happy living in Penge and I feel those people should be shown a little more respect than has been evident on the EDF.

There is something very odd about people living in a place feeling the need to denigrate somewhere else, how does that help anyone? I can well imagine that Penge is not for everyone, much as east Dulwich is not for everyone. There are many places in London that I have no desire to live, for my own personal reasons. That does not make the place I live better or worse than those places, it just makes them different.

Penge is by no means perfect, but I don't know many places that are. Clearly some of you feel that East Dulwich is perfect, but I am not sure why running somewhere else down makes you feel better about where you live if you are already so convinced that where you are is perfect.

Of course, this could all be some great conspiracy to cause house prices to fall so that you can all leave East Dulwich and move out to the "grimy" crime ridden Penge.

Clearly I do not live in East Dulwich, I am not sure if I live in Penge or Beckenham, one of the reason I am not sure is that I don't really care, I like where I live and I like the community that I am a part of.

I'm not sure Kate08 is taking it too seriously when she's read a post like emmableu's. I can't quite work out whether it's a troll post or not, but its pretty shitty.

Reads to me like some pretty pathetic person who's not from London and would get scared if she saw two 12 year olds on a street corner.

Comparing Penge or anywhere else to Dartford is below the belt man.

I missed emmableu's post. To be fair, if he's got Doctor's note then I think he should be excused.

"Diagnosis... Penge."

Can I say that some of the comments about Dartford are simply OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!! I say this as someone who has never been to Dartford, but will defend TO THE DEATH* it's right to exist unencumbered by SMALL MINDED ED forum MOCKERY!!!!

*Not really to the death, maybe just until I got bored.

Oh dear, you've made the fatal error of posting an opinion that runs contrary to the great and good of the EDF. They will brand you a troll, stupid, ignorant,or all of these. They are the all knowing wise ones, their collective knowledge on all subjects knows no bounds and if you have the bare faced cheek to post an opinion that isn't in keeping with their own, woe betide you. This forum is their private domain and heaven help you if they decide you aren't one of chosen few.

You seem to view 'the EDF' as a single, homogeneous entity and yourself as outside of it. A lone wolf... a renegade. I like it, it's sexy.

On the other hand you could be just one of many disparate contributors, who have different views on different subjects.
