I think it depends who you talk to but from my experience there is a real hatred for United amongst those on Merseyside that runs far deeper than with any other Club - Everton is a more traditional rivalry mirrored between Clubs across the country.

As for Ferguson's comments about who is United's local rivals I think it was made at the wrong time as all it does is belittle Manchester City. Fine go and say Liverpool are your chief rivals when you face Liverpool but why on the eve of the Manchester derby come out with those remarks? The only purpose it serves is to wind up the opposition. Ferguson was quick to point out the arrogance of Benetiz in his throw away line about Everton being a small club but I think this last few months Ferguson has gone way beyond that level with his own stream of put downs directed at Man City.

Harry Redknapp is another one who treats fans like idiots with his recent rants about Arsenal supporters. The likes of Harry Redknapp should take a long look at their own behaviour before they castigate the people who pay their wages.

Aah well. Disappointing result in a very competitive game. Not bad for 'long ball' west ham against the scientists of footie or whatever.

Worse still tfl decided to close all the stations nearby so had a vey glum two mile stroll all the way to the jubilee line. Ho hum.

If we carry on with performances like that and can avoid injuries (we lost upson and the returning behrami early on and cole was clearly fucked for the last half hour) then we wont be in a relegation fight.

Watched it on telly and it was good football by Liverpool, easily their best performance so far this season. The Reds were quite composed and stroked the ball about to good effect. I thought West Ham were very poor defensively especially that guy at left back. Jamie Carragher had a stinker for Liverpool - and on this showing needs to start looking over his shoulder as Agger will soon be fit.

Thought Ryan Babel impressed on the right flank, and it was good to see him whip in the cross for the winner. He clearly has a lot of talent and if he is allowed to build his confidence might be a crucial player this season in title hunt.

It's Everton who are the School of Science.. (a la Keef's preference of Everton vs West Ham than CL)

Well young Tomkins has great potential but was taught a lesson yesterday, he'll improve.

Our defence was pretty good on the whole but did make some key and occasionally schoolboy errors, but Liverpool's looked pretty exposed in the first half too.

It's not easy when you've had to sell one of your best defenders because you're financially fucked and then your best defender and captain comes off, but hey that's football.

I thought Johnson looked great by the way, real class.

Looks like the belgian lad could turn out to be the signing of the season.

Tomkins a very young defender exposed by possibly the best attacker in the world - looked poor? Well, maybe Matt. Caragher was once more shown to be a bit of a journeyman lucky to have been born in Liverpool I think. West Ham squad exposed if too many more injuries, Hines, great potential - Liverpool..need to sort out defense against set pieces

Impressive first half display by City - they look the real deal.

This could be the making of City if they can carry off a result. They've outplayed United. Apart from some Rooney magic I think it could be a struggle for United to wrestle back control of the match. United need to make changes quickly, which I think they will, perhaps Valencia and Nani for Giggs and JS Park who have both been fairly anonymous.

Excellent second half display by United, best team performance from them for many a year. Ryan Giggs was exceptional - at the centre of everything, like the Giggs of 10 years ago. Two cracking goals from Bellamy but then 2 minutes over the allotted 4 minutes of injury time up popped Owen with a vintage strike. Great game shame about the result.

    • A quick assessment on having a barter scheme amongst the community. An exchange of goods and services may be really helpful during these difficult times.    I wonder if it’s something that someone would be willing to set up separately and link to the forum? Or perhaps  an additional aspect of the forum itself if it was easy to include? I don’t have IT knowledge to set this up unfortunate, but I do have skills that I could offer. From past experience, it would probably work best as a direct exchange rather than coupon credit.    I may be flaunting the rules by posting on this twice, admin please feel free to delete one if this is the case.
