What's that in the sky?

What's that planet in the sky at the mo? Go on, look out your window. It's roughly SW.

I think it is Venus, I have recently had a conversation with neighbour how is expert in all thing 'starry'. I was also amazed by it's brightness, never seen it this bright before. Wondered if it could be to do with the thinning of the ozone layer, thus looking brighter, even looked at it though my binoculars because I could not work out what it was!!! happy gazing xcharliecharlie

Wow, just had a look up into the stars! What a sight particularly in the southernly direction, so many stars some brighter than others and maybe the odd aeroplane thrown in for good measure - but saw nothing that looked like a planet but definately worth a look!

Planets shine, stars twinkle.

(Something to do with the fact that lights from planets is essentially a reflection of light from the sun, whereas light from stars is self-generated.)

A few weeks' ago Venus was supposed to be in lined up with another planet (Mercury, I think) which was supposed to produce a v. bright effect.
