My dear old dad said to me the other day, "People paid atleast ?10000 over the odds to live around here, it doesnt make sence" LOL!

Not everybody is a snob Honk, but there are a lot around here. And for what, a 3 bed terraced house on the arse end of peckham.

Brendan. I have reviewed your sticks and imost of them are good solid sticks so i have given your bunch a AAA stick rating. Sure, some of the bunch are small and useless but who cares, put the big ones on the outside and you can get a good price for those sticks, noone will notice the little sticks on the inside. By the time your buyer discovers the little sticks, you will be long gone mate.

I'm not even going to answer such a pointless comment.

I don't see how it's pointless Honk, you're the only person on this thread who has suggested that skin colour should be a reasonable criteria for crime prevention investment.

If you don't want people to draw the logical conclusion that skin colour is a major influence in your dealings with people, then you're going the wrong way about it.

Take a look at the East Dulwich Police Safer Neighbourhood Team newsletter:

ED SNT Newsletter

That money I arranged has helped to see a dramatic reduction in household burglary, a dramatic reduction in shop crime.

We're looking at further ideas.

The East Dulwich Lib Dem cllrs want East Dulwich to became one of the very lowest crime ward in London.

One request the Police often make to me is they wish people would report crime and other intelligence to them so they have the big picture of what is happening locally.

Liberal Democrat councillor for East Dulwich

Thanks for telling us what you arranged councillor.

Could you please also explain how much money was spent on installing Help Points around the Borough which were never functional and have recently been removed at great expense?

Was that your idea too?

Hi Theehope,

The talking help points.

These were not my idea.

However, when this was originally mooted I was expecting the successful idea of existing CCTV cameras to have have micrphones and speakers added. CCTV computers programmed to recognise certain noise profiles which indicate a problem and then the CCTV operator tells the perpetrator they are being recorded and 9/10 times they stop.

Unfortunately this was not what was project managed.

I'm afraid I don't remember the exact sums but it was around sixty something thousand pounds for something like 20 help points around the borough. One was next to the pizza place next to East Dulwich station.

It appears one of those cases where a government grant was available. This carrot was bitten without thinking through the consequences. The current executive councillor Linda Manchester is wise enough to avoid such pitfalls.

But Theehope what do you think would reduce crime in East Dulwich. We've given out over 1,000 property marking kits (1 in 5 households), every shop has an Alertbox. What should we do next?

Yeah... but no but aren't more Acado vans being held up though?

Obviously by Boden wearing stripy topped "Baddies"......

"Look just hand over the Balsamic & the Extra virgin cold pressed....Now! or i'll biff your nose in"

Police are looking for a man wearing trodden down espadrilles and salmon coloured cords.

Race unknown.

Hi macroban,

If you google 'talking cctv cameras' you get loads of stuff:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6524495.stm

http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/about-us/news/talking-cctv

The schemes implimented so far don't seem to have sufficient scale to prove anything eitherway. Equally they generally are aimed at reducing low level anti social behaviour that isn't reliably recorded such as instances of littering.

My brother gets mugged every day. Last night chased by three black boys screaming ''Get him! Get his bike!''. That is my evidence of ED being full of crime & getting worse. Generally speaking, the stabbing that happened on LL, people on this forum who have been jumped & robbed of their ipods & phones...

Just saying, you've gotta be pretty stupid if you need convincing that ED is in fact getting worse. If you bothered to get out more, you'd probably find sooner or later you'll be one of the victims.

Can't decide whether or not this is a joke.

Is it?

My thoughts go out to your brother who it would seem is the unluckiest person in the world.

I and my entire family have been 'getting out' in ED for many many years and none of us have been mugged, stabbed or shot.

I do believe that crime is an issue in London, I do not believe (and will not until someone shows me some hard evidence) that it is on the increase, before this forum, you may well have not heard about all the incidents, this does not mean that they weren't happening.

    • I think, with schools, you really have to find the one that suits your child, rather than moving to a school catchment and then hoping it works. Mine both went to a high ranking and covetable school and had very different experiences - one loved it and the other was bullied and traumatised, and hated it. WE actually moved away because she couldn't walk around the area (yes - Dulwich area, so one of the local schools).
    • We live a little further down, on Pymers Mead. Traffic is terrible (always has been, but worse since the introduction of the Southwark LTNs). It's mainly the school drop -- traffic is noticeably lighter once the private schools break up  Have a few friends who live on that side of CR backing on to the train line. None has had any major complaints and the gardens on that stretch are fairly long, so you're not right on the line. Some have kids who go to Charter North -- its catchment defintely extends to Croxted Road. Other state secondaries nearby are Elmgreen and, of course, Kingsdale, although that doesn't have a catchment -- pure lottery
    • Hi. Does anyone know of a silver making jewellery workshop. I am trying to find something nice for my daughter’s 18th birthday.l for her and some friends but everything I find online is too pricey or can’t accommodate 10 girls. Thanks
    • Without doubt a busy road with constant traffic - but can always put in double glazing. If you have a car, don’t expect to park right outside - prob further away but with walking distance. Agree with PeckhamNicola re train times and freight but at least not wizzing by every few minutes! Sorry but little experience in state schools - obviously you have plenty of private - Jags Dulwich College, Alleyns. Judith Kerr on Half Moon Lane - good rep - no idea whether secondary or primary  - think primary. Also Charter School North - good reputation and Ark Evelyn - no idea! You might also look at West Dulwichand Crystal Palace Schools. Try Harris Academy as well. All the best.
