Ever since having a baby (2yrs ago) my mattress doesn't seem to be comfortable. I assume it's because my body has changed. I am a side sleeper. If I sleep on our much softer sofa it is far more comfy than my bed. Our mattress is from ikea, albeit the most expensive one they do. I would definitely invest in a new mattress if I thought it would improve my sleep but all the best mattress brands out there don't seem to have show rooms. Has anyone had this experience? Can anyone recommend a good mattress? I find memory foam uncomfortable (sweaty). We have a super king bed which means any mattress investment is very expensive and I don't want to spend thousands to end up witht the same result. I've tried about ten different Pillows and long support pillows. No good.

Thanks guys.

We have a mattress from Warren Evans

If you visit one of their showrooms,(If you click on the link above it will show you where all their showrooms are) you can test the mattresses, and I found their staff really knowledgable, in discussing what we wanted, prices etc.

W have a pocket sprung mattress from Warren Evans too. It cost more than the bed frame itself! But, we sleep brilliantly on it and have done ever since we bought it 7 or so years ago. Definitely worth testing them to see which sort works for you.

We also bought a mattress from John Lewis a couple of years ago for our eldest's single bed and again we tested them in the shop.

Pillows are another matter altogether...I change mine regularly but still really struggle to find one soft enough that doesn't just completely collapse after a few weeks. Doesn't help that I like the king size ones which many places don't sell.

We bought a mattress about 6 months ago from the John Ryan Outlet store (http://www.johnryanoutlet.co.uk/) to replace our old Ikea one and it's one of the best purchases we've made. The outlet site sells off returned or slightly damaged mattresses for up to 50% off - we went for a Grade F mattress which is their most 'damaged' but besides a few scuffs/ marks it is perfect. It's only now that we have a decent mattress that we realise how badly we actually slept before.

You could try Norris Bedding on Coldharbour Lane: http://www.norrisbedding.co.uk/mattresses/

I haven't used them personally but they are a long-established, local business which makes matteresses by hand.

A good mattress should last at least 10 years. If you consider how often you sleep in your bed, the cost of a mattress per night is pence.

WE bought a wonderful warren evans memory foam mattress a few years ago. It is like sleeping on a cloud and not at all sweaty. it was quite expensive though - but I think all good mattresses are. They delivered and at the same time took away our old mattress, which was a great service.
I had lower back pain since being pregnant that was much worse in the mornings and I was convinced our medium firm pocket sprung mattress made it worse. I also sleep on my side. And if I ever slept on a really firm mattress on holiday I would wake up in agony. I did loads of research and ended up buying this mattress: http://www.backinaction.co.uk/back-in-action-mattress It's memory foam and not only does my back no longer hurt but I now sleep through the night, every night, which I never ever used to before. It's brilliant. It's not sweaty but my husband did find it too hot so we got a superking frame and an Ikea mattress for his side. We dithered about it for ages because it's so expensive and our old bed wasn't very old but it was totally worth it. They have a show room in Marylebone where you can test it. (The second time I went to test it I nearly fell asleep because it was such a relief to be comfortable.)

    • I'd like to post a recommendation for Jerry Oscar of H.F.U. Ltd.   Jerry has just completed the renovation of my bathroom and I’m so happy with how it turned out.  My bathroom has a strange layout (with about a quarter of the room/floor space un-useable due to the stairs underneath), but he came up with some great ideas that have really made the most of the space - somehow he turned the room into a tardis and made room for a bath (previously only had a shower) AND even given me extra storage. He's a magician!  I felt he really cares about what he does and treated the project like it was his own home. He was also great to have around – super friendly, easy to talk to and raise any queries or concerns with the project, and he was very respectful of the space. He kept his tools tidy and made sure the bathroom was still usable while he worked, which made a big difference day to day. He doesn’t cut corners and clearly has high standards.  I’m honestly so pleased with how everything turned out. If you’re looking for someone reliable and skilled, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Jerry. He does kitchens too, and if I ever redo mine, I’ll be giving him a call. • These Gents are amazing, we asked them to come and paint our whole house interior and fix a number of issues from previous paint jobs. They are professional, clean up after themselves and pay attention to every detail. Their work is outstanding and I can't recommend them enough, Brian and Malachi are incredible.
    • Fabion is an experienced plumber. I was connected with Fabion through an App when I had an emergency issue with my water tank in the loft. He fixed it.  He also came back to replace my taps in the kitchen. Since then Fabion has been able to help me with the following:  1. Putting up blinds - immaculate 2. Dismantling and reassembling beds x2 (30 mins flat)  3. Taking down big old doors Extremely professional. Clean - never leaves a mess. SO fast. Attends when he say he's going to attend. Friendly and kind.  I cannot recommend him more highly.
    • Hi would be grateful for any recommendations. It is for a special birthday. One of the party is vegetarian. Thanks
