SeanMacGabhann
Techinically Peckham before the postcode police come knocking but I know lots of people on here go a lotOh and I did a search for the word "rye" which I expected to throw up a bazillion results about the park and lane but zilch.... aaaaaanywayPopped in on the way to Omrith last night and saw a notice on the door abouut them being shut from 1st-9th March for a revamp. Then Scott & Diane (owners) showed up and showed me a preview. Think BRIGHTERNow I like the Rye as it is juuuust fine thank you very much but there is no question there are some dark dead-spots at the mo so I'm looking forward to seeing this Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5453-rye-hotel-changes-a-comin/ Share on other sites
Brendan
Oh gawd not another ?modern? ?trendy? pub. I remember when all the pubs around here were proper pubs with flock wallpaper, chandeliers, armchairs and espresso machines. It?s South East London for gods? sake! Dam yuppies. Brendan
I would urge everyone to pay no attention to this Brendan fellow. He?s a sarcastic little shit who shouldn?t be posting when people have serious business to talk about. Go to the Rye though. It?s nice although quite busy so if you want to eat on the weekends best book. The Pad Thai is nice. Strawbs
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the rye.. I organise a big lesbo night once a month there and then go randomly at other times.. Maybe when it warms up we can have the forum drinks out the back? lenk
Hopefully they'll put something in place to deter the verminous children that turn the place into an upmarket version of a Wacky Warehouse at weekends. Thrash metal on the jukebox and loads of unattended power tools lying around in the beer garden should do the trick. Bellenden Belle
Actually I have eaten both on Saturday and Sunday lunch times and never been disturbed by "verminous" children... in fact the space seems large enough to embrace all manners of families and diners. MrBen
As possibly the first pub in Peckham to feature fresh flowers, candles and patterned wall paper, the rye got pent up metrosexual yuppie demand spot on when it opened in late 2004.I believe that the owners other half was/is an interior designer and presenter of quality TV show "60 minute makeover" (last seen on Living). So I expect to see a design that is very post boom "late 2010" and on the money.Good luck to Scott and Diane - they have done a great job in bringing some quality indie pubs to this corner of London. karter
Good place is the Rye, it used to be a regular place drinking point for south east London gangsters years ago.Sue, keep up my dear. :p Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5453-rye-hotel-changes-a-comin/#findComment-176141 Share on other sites
Cam123
As the Rye is my true local which i am very very fond of, i was a little concerned to hear that it was getting a refurb - what if they spoiled what is basically my third reception room? - and i really didn't think it needed one, rather liking the relaxed, slouchy, heavy drapes vibe. And what a surprise! Interior designer or no, it just looks plain old tacky to me now, what with the chrome, red leather chairs and silver flock wallpaper. There are some nice fabric covered chairs however which are lovely (but don't match). Cam123
I went in there tonight and must admit that the soup was indeed devine (and always is) and the wallpaper didn't look so bad in a evening setting... meat&potatoes
sean, in answer to the post lastnight which has oddly disappeared along with another, no agenda just that this was a forum for public opinion , not self publicity.
