Techinically Peckham before the postcode police come knocking but I know lots of people on here go a lot

Oh and I did a search for the word "rye" which I expected to throw up a bazillion results about the park and lane but zilch.... aaaaaanyway

Popped in on the way to Omrith last night and saw a notice on the door abouut them being shut from 1st-9th March for a revamp. Then Scott & Diane (owners) showed up and showed me a preview. Think BRIGHTER

Now I like the Rye as it is juuuust fine thank you very much but there is no question there are some dark dead-spots at the mo so I'm looking forward to seeing this

I would urge everyone to pay no attention to this Brendan fellow. He?s a sarcastic little shit who shouldn?t be posting when people have serious business to talk about.

Go to the Rye though. It?s nice although quite busy so if you want to eat on the weekends best book. The Pad Thai is nice.

I guess I'll have to try and recombine the letters of the alphabet in some other way. I'll burn that bridge when I get there, yeah?

Its on tomorrow night from 8pm out the back!

As possibly the first pub in Peckham to feature fresh flowers, candles and patterned wall paper, the rye got pent up metrosexual yuppie demand spot on when it opened in late 2004.

I believe that the owners other half was/is an interior designer and presenter of quality TV show "60 minute makeover" (last seen on Living). So I expect to see a design that is very post boom "late 2010" and on the money.

Good luck to Scott and Diane - they have done a great job in bringing some quality indie pubs to this corner of London.

Are you two lesbos then?

  • 4 weeks later...

As the Rye is my true local which i am very very fond of, i was a little concerned to hear that it was getting a refurb - what if they spoiled what is basically my third reception room? - and i really didn't think it needed one, rather liking the relaxed, slouchy, heavy drapes vibe.

And what a surprise! Interior designer or no, it just looks plain old tacky to me now, what with the chrome, red leather chairs and silver flock wallpaper.

There are some nice fabric covered chairs however which are lovely (but don't match).

    • of course most people would avoid the "stupid" term - but I'm sticking with it fact is no other European would be so dumb, and even with the same information, the  same media, the same everything, 2 of the countries within the UK saw ho stupid an idea it was - but only the English (who played a large part in the Welsh result) pushed ahead - there is something defiantly arrogant and stupid and it isn't just down to bad info and bad leadership But that was all 2016 - it's people in 2025 who claim it to be a good idea executed badly who are especially stupid Now - does calling people stupid help anyone? It's not especially politically gainful and just gets peoples' backs up - but it remains a truth and only when the country as a whole genuinely holds it's hands up and admits the stupidity (rather than downplaying it as a poor decision - no shade meant Mal - you are just nicer and politer than me) will it begin. to turn the tide Also worth mentioning that yes I am as intractable and blunt with friends and family who voted Leave as well - this isn't me hiding behind some online anonymous account. This is what I'm like
    • Hello My name is Lizzie and I work locally as a dog walker and nanny. I won’t be needed over Summer so will have full availability for a dogsitting job. I have a DBS certificate and will provide several dogsitting references as well. Please note that I can only watch your pet at your home since they are sadly not allowed in my flat! Looking forward to hear from you
    • The decision to leave the EU was a poor one, but I'd avoid the term stupid when applied to the masses (the decision was of course stupid) and blame those who willingly misled.  A certain N Farage (pronounced with a hard G rather than the soft G he affected, rather continental eh?) being one of the main culprits. He blames the Tories for not delivering Brexit, and not really clear how Labour are playing this.  But ultimately what sort of Brexit were people voting for?  And ditto what future were people voting for last Thursday?
