(ED Picturehouse now open)when is the cinema on LL opening?

I went past the cinema today and it really doesn't look like it'll open in April, although I'm pleased the exterior windows and paintwork appear to have been completed.


I'm sure it'll be worth the extended wait once the cinema opens.

A passing glimpse through the doorway shows it still looks more like a building site than a cinema.

On a positive hopeful note though, I have had a drink or two in the Clapham Picturehouse bar recently and the prices are not too bad e.g. pint of Estrella ?4.30,slightly cheaper than local bars.

Bearing in mind that Clapham is probably a bit pricier than ED looks promising if you want another bar to choose from (I haven't a clue about the cinematic quality however)

They want us to be excited and patient a bit longer. Membership usable elsewhere. Seems to cover what they want us to know /what we need to know with good grace in a lighthearted manner.

I guess if people have signed up for East Dulwich Picturehouse membership then they would have a right to be pissed off, esp. as they may well miss the 'new' deadline. The rest of us aren't customers yet. Personally I will await its opening with equanimity given that there are plenty of other cinemas around.

Pissed off? Hardly, have had weeks (months even) of free membership that gets continually extended the longer they take to open. It gets me discounts at shops/restaurants/the other Picturehouses. Excellent value. Can't understand why people are getting exercised about it.

I agree. It will open when it opens. People seem to behave as if it's some sort of public service "right" for the place to be open by now and for those who bought membership, it will just be extended accordingly. The entitlement some people feel on this forum is extraordinary.

I see your point BNG, and I agree wholeheartedly. If they can't make a date and stick to it, not once, not twice but three times (and who's knows if it's going to change yet again), trusting in their business model once that open becomes a little harder too. That's the unfortunate truth.

I think the fact they are late opening will have no bearing whatsoever on the quality of their business, or what people think of them!


Building work always overruns, especially when you're dealing with a huge old building that may have all sorts of unforeseen issues. In any case, I presume the builders will not be running the cinema? Sorry to e facetious but I see no connection between the two whatsoever. When it opens we will all forget the delays and flock there anyway.

Ooh - I'm a ritzy member. Is this why they've offered to carry over my unused tickets?? Extra months sounds good too. I will renew asap.


Re: my pissed off comment I was simply suggesting that IF there were people who bought ED membership paeticularly, and it sounds as though this isn't the case, I could see they'd have a case to be annoyed. I just couldn't see why anyone else should be.

Picturehouse membership is valid at any of their venues, so it's not as if people who have bought an ED Picturehouse membership are losing out. I bought my membership a year ago and have been using it elsewhere, so by the time it opens and the 15 months membership begins, i'll have enjoyed the benefits for 27 months for the price of 12. Good deal if you ask me.

Not from ED, not from South London, not from London, not even from the the UK... A blow-in? Is that what people are calling me behind my back? I've heard worse I guess, but maybe I should rethink my planned new and conceptual hair cut. Plans foiled!

What tosh. Delays are between them and their builders. Like I said, it's not a public service and once it is open I'm sure it'll be a huge success and will be very popular with the blow-ins.

Opening weekend looking good - just worried as I've realised been on hold for ages to get tickets on my mobile and it's stupid pence per minute on this booking line. Wish I'd realised it was an expensive number earlier - these "free" tickets are going to end up costing a fortune!

Still - excited it's soon to open!

The 'opening weekend' (17th-19th April) is a soft opening for 'members' - the cinema opens to the general public, as I understand it, in the following week.


As you all know, we've been on an incredible journey to bring this cinema into being. Unfortunately we're just a hair's breadth away from having the building ready for our planned opening date. We will open to the public on Thursday 23 April.


The good news is that we will be opening exclusively to our ever-patient Founder Members for the weekend of Friday 17 ? Sunday 19 April.

And what about longstanding Picturehouse members? I've been a member since Year Dot, but bet I don't qualify to attend the opening. It's a bit like those offers from mortgage lenders who have great rates for newcomers...

Apparently there are still lot's of tickets, but their phone lines are currently down. I guess this is what happens when you're operating from a building site. Fingers crossed they can get it all finished in time. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates re. the phones.

      I wanted to just add that my experience has shown me that fitness classes aimed at an older demographic are often nowhere near as good or as much fun as those aiming at all and sundry.. most classes I've been to NOT aiming at 'Middle aged' people have had such a mixed bag and everyone does what they can at their own pace and this is encouraged. Do give it a go.

      Greens have some mad polices and I am still trying to work out if it is true that the leader of the party thought he could hypnotize women to have larger breasts 🤷‍♂️ country is in a real state at the min and all party’s have a part to play in that. what the future holds who knows but it is worrying.

      A stellar win for the Greens in Gorton and Denton, no doubt. But by-elections are funny beasts. Labour's strength traditionally has been in its ground game. Legions of canvassers over many years in many seats usually means that they are best placed to 'get out the vote' on election day. I can't quite believe that the Greens have enough data, or people, to wrest control of the council from Labour.

      Was a regular haunt of mine for many years and had a lot of fun times in there and some marvellous food down the years. Though, admittedly I spent most of my time in there doing some serious boozing. In recent times I've been a less frequent visitor to this fine establishment. I seriously hope it doesn't change too much. It's always had a good vibe in there and that's down to Tim and Rod and all of the staff who have worked there over the past 26 years.
