"Malcolm Hardee was said to have the biggest testicles in the country apart from Jenny Agutter?s father."

Comedy guru and East Dulwich resident, Bruce Dessau, has guest blogged on Deserter about South London comedy: The Funny Side of London.

Only just had a chance to read the piece, and very good it is too. Nice to see a name check for Ron and Emma. Here's a bit of triva, Ron had a substantial part in the Buddy Holly musical when it first opened in Victoria back in the day.

I could be dreaming it but I'm sure EDC had a spell in Camberwell towards the Oval either before or after they were at the mag. Rod's brother had the mag which is probably how that came about. That was when it had the awesome (in it's crappiness) bookshelf wallpaper.

Remember all of them at the Grove from my early days in Peckham. Chrissy Boy from Madness was a regular too and another actor who's name I struggle to remember but a very familar face.

Used to all go on then to Cafe Mexicana for late drinks! Early 90s!

Lived next to the Mag when ED Comedey was there (209b Lordship Lane don't ya know). Used to love Comedy Pub Quiz on a Thursday with Ray Peacock!

Ahh yesterday - leave me alone.......

    • Ah, thanks,  it all comes flooding back. I've actually been to the Hastings shop, I'd forgotten all about it, along with her name! Didn't she (in between?)  take over what  was then The Magnolia, previously The Magdala, now The Lordship, with her then partner? Or is that some figment of my imagination?  In fact, didn't they transform it from The Magdala (much missed) to The Magnolia? With flowery wallpaper covering the front of the bar? Which reminds me of the pub's brief period after The Magnolia  as the ill-conceived and ill-fated The Patch.

    • A belated recommendation for Iain and Paul od Oddbods who came to help me with various jobs before Christmas.  Painting ceiling, renewing silicone around bath, repairing a window sill which was almost beyond repair and hanging a large mirror.   Very happy with their work and they are friendly and very reliable and excellent at communicating.  No hesitation in recommending them.
